Re: UK's most hated garments...

As always... a list as unnecesary and useless as....

What's the benefit of lists like this? That some people hate crocs? Others red trousers? Jesus. I hate when people look unwashed, unkempt, when they stink...

One hates sandals, another one loafers, the next one trainers.... it's all rubbish IMO.

There is a use for everything. Crocs are awesome for kids - beach, swimming, playing in the sand pit...

Speedos - good for swimming, right? Like Incontinence pants etc.
Uggs - well my wife loves her Uggs, she never thought so. Ultimate feeling well shoes, appropriate for home use and dry cold winter days.

Red Trousers? Well, nobody has to look like an idiot douchebag, the idiot douchebags that do so look awful in other trousers, too. I love my moleskin cinnamon red winter trousers, they look good with Tweed and cord...

Nantucket Reds are a different story anyway...

Re: UK's most hated garments...

I think you're missing the point which is one fought on many fronts...

1. Red trousers don't suit many people.

2. People that wear said trousers in order to incorporate themselves into social groups, that don't consider whether red trousers actually suit them stand the risk of looking ridiculous.

3. You're wearing red trousers

Funnily enough no mention of grey leather loafers on the list Leer 😉

I agree, Babbling, Left Red Trousers is all wrong. It's all about the cut.

Funny how some people take it as a personal affront because some stranger on the internet doesn't like something that they do happen to like.

Re: UK's most hated garments...

I wouldn't limit it to the internet!

I'm not giving a zealoted opinion here (for once) I'm suggesting the higher order and universal mysteries of aesthetics should be of primary consideration....

Which is also why i dont wear speedos, no one needs to have their eyes assaulted to that degree

/\  an experienced dresser knows that red trousers should be slightly flared and are best complemented by a furry psychedelic jacket worn over a psychedelic vest, chain-link belt, fringed suede knee boots, a fluffy natural, Noel, and Mitch.

Re: UK's most hated garments...

I think its healthy to take the piss out of each other, shows a nicely balanced approach to what is ultimately a futile existence.

Saying that, what about bright trousers in general....a very strong signifier of something unearthly about an individual... where as bright shorts fine...what is it about shin disclosure that allows increased volumes of saturation?

Re: UK's most hated garments...

Bit harsh on the tracksuit, I reckon - I assume that's based on classism, to some extent. Although recent tracksuits are especially bad.

The Incontinence pants tracksuit is an undisputed design classic, though -whether worn in an 80s NYC hip-hop style or an 80s German mid-table Bundesliga post-training session style. Arguably, even the Fila tennis tracksuit top gets a pass, too.

Red trousers have no place in society for me, however, and unfortunately must be banished (and if the Rolling Stones get dragged into it, then so must be it).

Re: UK's most hated garments...

I agree with Leer that these lists are bad. However, I think they're bad not because they include an item at all but because they don't have any nuance.

What we're seeing here is that these items are never objectively bad (except speedos, sorry) - they're bad worn in a certain context or by a certain kind of person. I knew a Green Beret who could 100% pull of Crocs. Red trousers in certain contexts, as we've explored... I agree with colin that the tracksuit looks good when worn by certain people or in certain contexts as well...
