Towel polo shirts

Skim-reading the FT Weekend's "How to spend it".  Anyway, in two different features they were promoting Poloshirts with a "resort collar" made out of towel material, a la James Bond in Goldfingers, which was foreseeable.

What is your view on these shirts? I guess that they look right on square-chinned, toned, hollow-cheek, 21 year old Polo Ralph Lauren advert types. But not on real people.

I LOVE , this foum

Re: Towel polo shirts

These polo shirts were very common in the sixties.

Re: Towel polo shirts

They're functional and supposed to provide dignity for men who need to lounge or eat near a pool or the beach. Whatever one thinks of how they look on a man theyre not attracted to, they are better than staring at bare flesh.

Re: Towel polo shirts

Orlebar Brown do nice ones. Wash great, made in Portugal. Minor issue is they have a tiny (really tiny) logo sown into the side seam. Didn't even notice it till I got a second one. Wouldn't recomend them if your a bit overweight as their pretty slim cut, I had to take an XL and I'm a 40 chest. Tops with shorts and trainers. Good for your hols as they don't really need ironing.
