Good afternoon all,
I have searched the forum for thread about dating Brooks Brothers Shirts and different types of labels, I have also searched google, there is some info out there but the two that Iv found date the labels differently. I did find one on sports coats/blazers which was handy.
It seems to me that most people’s favourite shirt are Vintage Brooks Brothers.
So far searching this blog and google I have found out the below, if any body knows different I would appreciate been corrected!(no offense taken as it’s alot to learn!)
Big dates:
1940s - New York label no Makers
1950s - makers was introduced on the oval in place of new york
1972 - care label required (machine wash hot)
1988 - made in label required
1974 - “University Shop” became “Brooksgate”
1985 - end of “Brooksgate”
I have a variety of brooks brothers shirts with different colour labels ie. brooksweave one in green & one in yellow, does this indicate different dates?
I would be ever so greatful if you can send pics of your brooks brothers shirts and labels with the date as a references
Thanks in advance gents
Good luck Walker , i had a stab at it 5 years ago.

Do women actually go for guys who wear certain Brooks shirt labels?
I shall ask the Mrs ( i am wearing Brooks madras with my PJ bottoms and slips)
Here's a guide to the changes in the 80s:

I have quite a few different Makers labels in my closet:
Red text, usual Brooks Brothers Makers oval:
ALL SUPIMA COTTON
MACHINE WASH OR
COMMERCIALLY LAUNDER
NATURAL PH ONLY
NO CHLORINE BLEACH
MADE IN U.S.A.
ALL COTTON
MACHINE WASH HOT
ALL SUPIMA COTTON
MACHINE WASH
NO CHLORINE BLEACH
MADE IN U.S.A.
ALL COTTON
MACHINE WASH OR
COMMERCIALLY LAUNDER
NEUTRAL PH ONLY
NO CHLORINE BLEACH
MADE IN U.S.A.
OF IMPORTED FABRIC
ALL COTTON
MACHINE WASH
NO CHLORINE BLEACH
MADE IN U.S.A.
OF IMPORTED FABRIC
Blue text, larger cursive Brooks Brothers across the top of Makers oval:
RELAXED FIT
ALL COTTON
MACHINE WASH OR
COMMERCIALLY LAUNDER
NEUTRAL PH ONLY
NON-CHLORINE BLEACH
MADE IN U.S.A.
OF IMPORTED FABRIC
I also have the regular oval logo, but with Est. 1818 instead of Makers, and the big rectangle logo with the cursive Brooks Brothers, both still made in U.S.A ("The Original Polo Shirt"). I own no B2 shirts made outside the USA. I also have a short-sleeve Brooks Makers that was converted from a long sleeve sometime in the distant past, and one originally short sleeve shirt which adds the words SHORT SLEEVE to the label, just in case you thought it was a regular shirt for a double amputee.
Ha ha. Indeed.
Just out of interest..
Does anyone own a pre 1950's Brooks Brothers OCBD with the “Brooks Brothers New York” label?
if so i would love to see pictures
Are you familiar with the Heavy Tweed Jacket blog? I think he has more vintage Brooks shirts than all of us put together and I'm sure that includes some real oldies.
can anyone post the link for the Heavy Tweed Jacket blog archives? cheers.
I don't know if the archives are still up. I assume you're already familiar with https://www.tumblr.com/dashboard/blog/heavytweedjacket. Tumblr really is garbage - how can anyone think that it's a good idea to confine content to less than half of the page? Such a shame in this instance.
I never understood why HTJ's Tumblr is like that. Others are actual, visitable pages. It's maddening.
I think there is a link on Ox's blog.
Morning all,
Has anyone ever seen a Brooks Brothers Shirt with the famous G stamp on the tail which was made by Gant Shirtmakers. Iv been told that Gant made shirts for Brooks in the 40s.
just curious to know if anybody has come across one of these before? or even has a picture of such thing?
Has anyone seen that Brooksweave on Ebay? Dacron poly/cotton and rather shabby with it.
