Post-Ivy business dress

How did people dress for work after the Hippie revolution? Think IBM in the mid-1970ies. Did "formal" business suits have flared bottoms? I am currently looking at photographic evidence form my country, e.g. leading politicians.

I believe there was a thread, either on this forum or Styleforum. or, god beware, on AAAAAAAAC.

My recollection of English suits in the early seventies was nipped waists, square shoulders, kipper ties, tight trousers with flared legs ....  WIIIIIIIIDE lapels.

Wonderful!

Some T&A ties have a strong 70ies vibe to me (and not a "swinging sixties" one, as it is reiterated again and again in various forums).

I would say a 9.5-10cm heavy woven navy blue silk tie, with muted, mid-grey diagonal stripes of varying width, is "my" idea of a conservative 1970ies "establishment" tie, fit for a senior politician or business leader.

A godawful era for business dress, but above all else spectacles have never looked, or hopefully will ever look again, as awful as they did then.
