National Anthem of Canada

I first came across this company a little while ago whilst looking at a clothing website from Japan. Never heard of them before that. The first item from them  that caught my eye was this  `National Naval Supply - Nautical Parka` .

http://www.rakuten.co.jp/littletreasure/489654/836650/

I noticed that the parka was labelled as being made in Canada, and i think what first attracted me to it was the fact that it really did look and appear as if  it was a utilitarian and functional piece of clothing. I liked the idea that it could be an `anti-fashion garment` and was genuine issue. The `National Naval Supply`...

(Yeah, ok, call me naive and gullible!).

Well, more recently i came across their Melton wool Coverall.

I think it looks like it`s crying out to be worn with some decent slim chinos and maybe some of those cool WW2 Impressions boondocker boots(!). I tried googling to find out more about the `National Anthem` company, and it appears from close-up pics of other NA clothing items on Japanese websites that they are actually based in Vancouver, Canada. http://store.yahoo.co.jp/septis/6-0606.html -` Shipmens Supply`

It`s apparent that they are actually a bit of a `fashion` brand, but perhaps with a clever view to their clothing items at least having a semblance of  authenticity, and  `naval supply`...

Surely a Japanese Co. wouldn`t attach a faux  `Made in Canada` label in the interests of appearing novel, and authentic. Well, they wouldn`t, surely.Would they...!?

I still like em though.

NA items don`t seem to be available online outside Canada. I just wondered if there might be any Canadians here -who view or post on the FNB forum- that might be able to furnish me with any more info on NA. If any info was forthcoming, it`d be much appreciated.

cheers,

jesmond

Never heard of them. Two things come to mind -- Vancouver has a large Asian population, some of whom must be involved in trans-Pacific trade; and it is my understanding that Canada holds a certain fascination in the Japanese mind as a place of wilderness adventure. It would not surprise me that the former might try to exploit the latter in a fashion label.

Lovely stuff - Great finds, Jesmond!

I have to go to Japan to soak up all that Ivy style & Jazz. So many great shops & great looking items over there. Japan really is the home of Americana!
