Here's something fun from the great HoZac record label (home of the late lamented People's Temple).

I loved hardcore as a teenage skateboarder.
Minor Threat - Complete Discography

These guys seem to have more guitars and drums than they need. Are they trying to be the Allman Brothers? Or the Outlaws with the "Guit Tar Army"?
It's catchy and the kids are having a good time

Robert Christgau loves these guys. So does Pitchfork. That would ordinarily be the kiss of death. I think they are pretty tight for what they are, but they are also in danger of thinking that their lyrics are important.
Also would it kill somebody to shave once in a while? Hard to look edgy when you look like everyone else.

My method for finding these bands is to plug one into a popular music website that plays music and see what Al G. O'Rithim burps up. Mostly crud, but a few gems here and there. At least they seem like gems at the time.
Speaking of Al G. O'Rithim, when I tried to write the name of a music website that sort of rhymes with Andorra and is frequently mentioned with a box, I got "Thongs."

You know what? Most Dinosaur Jr. songs sound pretty much the same.
There. I siad it.
I never paid much attention to the group but for some reason that can probably be explained by the word "algorithim" Thongs made of barbed wire was playing them a lot.
Another thing that can probably be explained by the word "algorithim" is when I type the name of a music website here I get "Thongs made of barbed wire."
It doesn't work in reverse, however.

The Glands. I don't know how I missed these guys.

I started with Sonic Youth when I bought "Sister" on cassette so I could play it on a cheap boom box in my 1977 police option Chevy Nova I inherited from my grandmother hahaha

I like EVOL better than Sister, and Washing Machine better than Daydream Nation.
I don't care for Thurston Moore's recent stuff much. Odes to William Burroughs -- okay, I get it, you're a middle-aged punk.
/\ I can dig it ... I like The Diamond Sea but by far the Sonic Youth tune that always got me the most was Dirty Boots by far ... from their most commercial LP Goo
saw them a bunch, the last time in Central Park at a free SummerStage show on a beautiful day in 2002, what a fantastic time that was sigh
they were always on top of their game when I saw them, particularly when Jim O'Rourke was around
