Inspired by all this talk I found and started watching this and had to be admitted to the hospital for chronic nausea. But it does rather confirm all my anti-preppy (in the sense herein described--many (most?) people who merely go to prep school are the opposite of all this shit, though it, like the ivy league today, remains a decidedly mixed church) and anti-preppy-enclave prejudices. I wish it were not so much the case that it seems so representative of, say, conversations one hears in Greenwich or Westport. (Doubtless because I don't travel in the right circles, but I've yet to find circles I'd want to travel in in such places.) These people are the plague.

/\ all of that was real, we did a good job in this thread before the posting of these pics, which confirm our earlier posts to a tee, so congratulations all around
Beebs, thank you very much for the research and the work, MVP stuff on the Tech Ivy/Worried Man level, which is most high
and thanks for all the Adid@s, Clarks Desert Treks, Bean camp mocs, Jack Purcells, squash action, Shetland sweaters, Bean Norwegians, printed t-shirts, jean jackets, hightop Wallabees, and long '70s hair ... lots of Dead fans going for the Bob Weir Europe '72 vibe in prep schools in those years
like a trip down memory lane
there was always at least one junior alkie crying for help in these yearbook pics, even though the bongs mostly stayed hidden
but not always
the chubby Freddy Miles kid in the ocbd, glasses, Shetland crewneck, and smirk, and the older alumnus guy in the fur coat and cowboy hat, try to be nice to them in spite of it all, you never know
^ i don't know; the ones i've slept with all conform to a kind of unofficial preppy handbook in certain particulars that has nothing to do with birnbach or post-70s preppy fashion movements but is derived directly from their schooling environment, both in terms of clothing and customs
another place a version of preppy is practiced well without much of the shit is montreal, esp. west of mcgill., mostly by young women who have a kind of french take on the look that incorporates a lot of rus in urbe
^ yes
"Clogs are a sixteen-year-old's idea of a dress shoe," according to the OPH...
I wish I knew what of the OPH came from which writer. Birnbach was only the editor but she's certainly taken on the OPH mantle. I suspect she didn't come up with the really good bits...
^neither a preppy nor a gentleman
You dogs you
