Madras shorts

Since summer is approaching I need some new shorts and this year I will go with madras. Is there any contemporary brand that sell some good ones or is Ebay the only alternative?

Re: Madras shorts

O'Connell's sells madras shorts that I'm sure are excellent. J. Press is selling some nice-looking madras shorts at the moment too, for about $30 cheaper... However, there are lots of options kicking around on eBay, mainly old RL stuff but some older things occasionally as well...

Re: Madras shorts

madras shorts are a pleasure of summer to be sure, just maybe you don't want to wear the same pair every day, unlike your solid cottons

I like these:

Re: Madras shorts

I got a pair of patchwork Jpress last year and the quality was pretty poor. Uneven stitching and plastic zip.

Re: Madras shorts

Gotta say I think charging over $100 for a pair of shorts is taking the piss.

Always lots of new (with and without tags) Ralph Lauren madras shorts on eBay

Re: Madras shorts

I would second RL. Loads about on eBay (I got some for about £20 NWT), and they’re well cut with a decent rise in the classic fit.

Re: Madras shorts

I have a couple of pairs.  Somehow I feel that unless it's the right region - and those seem somewhat more limited these days -- these things are falling into costume or pastiche.

I also wonder -- just in general -- if popularization hasn't killed a certain something about our chosen togs.  Yes, I know they were once mainstream.  And then less so.  But the vulgarization by chains, and corporate dress, and changing work mores, and whatnot.  Even the internet.  There used to be a code.  Maybe it got cracked.  Or maybe I'm cracked and sounding more like Tom222 now...I sure as hell hope not.

Re: Madras shorts

First and foremost let me apologise for the necropost. I am on the lookout for madras shorts to be procured within the confines of the European Union. But with one caveat! I do not wish to employ the services of Ebay Inc.

Is that a popped collar or are you just happy to see me?

Re: Madras shorts

Oh man! Lands End got a pair of madras shorts on their US site. With 40% off I thought that I would save some money. Nope. 45 bucks to have them shipped to where I live.

Am I being stingy? 3-4 years ago I bought a couple of shirts from the US site but I never paid that much for shipping.
