J. Press OCBDs

I am tempted to try one (flapped pocket, probably). My question is this: would someone used to wearing Slim Fit Brooks OCBD's find the Press offering heinously large?

They seem to be of tip-top quality. Is Troy Guild still making them?

Young Brother Trad,

I prefer BB OCBDSL and, do not find, J Press OCBDFP to be, so large.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

I have it in blue butcher stripe...not nearly as full cut as Mercer or even Brooks but looks good. Nice collar.  Me gusta. (Though I also enjoy the fuller-cut jobs).

Re: J. Press OCBDs

I once provided some very interesting info on the forum re: how the J. Press flap had got larger/longer/more of a feature over time.

I would like to link this observation to the state of the US economy 1985-2007...

But I have vowed not to.

Drive carefully.

The less of the dollar the more of the flap...

This is my observation.

Trad only blooms under adversity these days.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

does Leon Leonwood still make the ol' flapper?   Besides Press, Brooks will do the flap on MTM.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

The Press sale continues including shirts with price stickers that have turned brown. I only notice that the cloth was way thicker and there was a 3rd button on the collar. the stock was maybe 15 years old. The Hathaway era featurered a skimpier cut of lesser fabric. the ones they make today are not for the heroin addicted thin. back to making them in the US of A, though.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

Interesting sight the other day of a very sharp-looking couple from Italy packing their SUV, parked adjacent to Press, with several large shopping bags filled with Press clothes.  I know Italians love the bro's but I guess Press is a bit more exclusive.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

Chums,

Did this happen a while ago with Press?

The Flap pocket now has the center button in back and the tag?

It's Giant vibrator-sink aesthetics.  They've thrown everything at this shirt.  I think the flap pocket is enough without all the extra details.  Too much!

Was there every a time when Press had one or both of these elements on this shirt?  I certainly don't remember it (but that doesn't mean much!)

I don't like the newer label either.  The older red one was key.

Not that I'm propping up Press in the US.  A few shirts or other things every year or so.  But I like to complain.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

FYI, Mercer will do a flap pocket by request. Haven't had any made yet, but going to line up a few short sleeved seersucker shirts with the flap for summer time.... Will report back then.

Re: J. Press OCBDs

I looked through the brochure. Are you talking about the bit at the end with the "blue label"? Because that's just for select, modern, what-the-kids-are-into clothes, isn't it? The rest of the labels are blue, too bad to lose the red but J. Press has had its classic label in blue as well for quite a while, unless I'm wrong?
