Triple-welt brogues

OK - they were made in Belgium, tan colour, very clumpy with a strangely beautiful very wide triple welt. You got the heft of a long wing tip without the long wing and with a rounder, almond toe shape. J.Simons sold them around 84-87. They were about £300, which was a fortune back then so I could never afford a pair. Like most things no longer available I have become slightly obsessed with them but can find no further information. What were they? Who made them? Did anyone buy a pair? I notice Grenson now make a version but they are not at all similar. These Belgian beauties were truly remarkable creations.

Re: Triple-welt brogues

Would the Grenson offering be the 'Archie'?  Why do Grenson insist on giving their footwear these dopy names?  I've got 'Oscar' - the name of a spaniel I once knew - and have never really taken to them.  I think of Grenson in much the same way as I think of Loake or Cheaney.  The factory shop down the road was selling them twenty years ago.  £300 in 84-87 - yipes.  Would they have been a sound investment, like Florsheim Imperials or the Church my father wore?  Funny thing is, I tend to think of you now as a loafer'desert boot man.  Myself, I do like a bit of heft.
