On satire

Years ago, on this website, a chap who I think called himself The Beatnik, wrote a genuinely hilarious, laugh out loud on your own, satire of an exchange of posts between Gibson Gardens, Andy (cannot remember his username at this time), David/Jimmy Frost-Mellor, and Suitedbooted2000. It was brilliantly observed, does anyone remember it? One of the debates was about whether Georgie Fame ate a scotch egg or a steak bake at the Flamingo. Brilliantly witty stuff.

Talking of satire, I present my humble attempt for anyone who missed it a few years ago: http://forums.filmnoirbuff.com/viewtopic.php?id=20594

Re: On satire

Yes, and from where Steve McQueen might have bought his steak bake!  That was guying a very lovely poster we had on here who went under the name Staceyboy.
I remember Beatnik well.  He was a very sweet guy from one of our northern outposts (north of Whitby anyway) who soon got the measure of this forum (as did his wife: 'Why, it's just a lot of old men talking about their socks'.  She'd imagined it might be something racier than 'loafer porn').  Beatnik held a large needle in his right hand with which to prick pomposity (including my own) and pretentiousness.  Superb stuff, an absolute forum highlight.

Re: On satire

Not satire, but another forum highlight for me was the posting about Ian Strachan laying his raincoat down in the road and allowing cars to run over it.  I related this anecdote to my wife and a female shop assistant whilst eyeing a coat on Saturday afternoon.  My wife had heard it all before but the shop assistant evidently thought I was mad.  Yet didn't Astaire throw his new jackets against walls to break them in?

If only we could have The Beatnik back.

Re: On satire

By some misfortune, Beatnik's wonderful epic seems to have disappeared.  I wonder if it might be retrieved.

When you click on it you need to press harder. Using 2 hands is best.

Alternatively, you could ask any family member or neighbour under the age of 120 for assistance.

Re: On satire

I'm sure if she shows you the method you'll be able to do it easily enough.

You're not sure of your missus' exact age? As long as you remember her birthdays you can get away with that.
