Take It Or Leave It: The Tootal Scarf

£40 a time at JS.  Made me think a bit.  The man himself used to wear a rather nice green number (I assume it was Tootal), which I think I tried to buy (or possibly steal from him when his back was turned).  I guess he must have declined but no matter.  Anyway, like the proverbial bad penny, it keeps turning up.  Beatnik favoured them black.  Now, I'm not claiming they were ten a penny but £40 seems a little steep.  Or am I seriously out of touch?  Then there was John's thread on cleaning them.  Dry-cleaning was not favoured.  I haven't owned one for, oh, a while ago, but I still remember how good that green number looked around JSs handsome neck, throat and shoulders.  I might be tempted.  But not at £40.

Re: Take It Or Leave It: The Tootal Scarf

Seems about the going rate when I check equivalents at http://nicholsonandwalcot.co.uk/mens/

I have a nice warmer season scarf that I got on from Pelicano in black/blue from their sale which has proved a good buy - https://www.pellicanomenswear.com/product-tag/scarf/

Anything decent in quality is far higher in price now than ten years ago it seems.

A bit too Weller for my liking. I love a good wool scarf though. Preferably a nice check.

Re: Take It Or Leave It: The Tootal Scarf

I bought a Tootal paisley scarf about 10 years ago when I saw one I colours that replicated a scarf I had when I was 15 years old. I was disappointed to find it wasn't made in England but it was silk. I also thought the length was shorter than I remembered.
Another company trading on it's heritage. With a flat cap i could pass as a 1950/60s east end barrow boy.
