Take It Or Leave It: Bill's Khakis

In response to Yuca, all I can say is, after having several items of this and that, instinct pushed me away from them.  The cords I found particularly unsatisfying, same with the actual khakis.  Shorts were okay (though I wouldn't be seen wearing shorts now, the go-to look for English OAPs keen to show off their varicose veins/tats/dead white hairy flesh etc.).  Still, I didn't reckon Levis cords either and the pairs I tend to wear now are more or less shite, so...

I believe that the quality of Bills dropped after a few years. Nonetheless the cords I have back in Blighty are easily of a similar or perhaps higher quality to the ones I bought new from O'Connell's. Lovely corduroy and a high not medium rise. I think they're from the early made in the US days but I'm not 100%.

some sort of banal legitimacy

Take it, with reservations. I've got a stack of old ones, most with cuffs, and I kinda moved away from cuffs.

I haven't seen the latest iteration.

There's no excuse for moving away from cuffs.

^I agree, but nonetheless that's what happened.

It's all part of the rapid disintegration of my entire clothing ethos thanks to COVID-19. When it first started I'd get dressed just for the sake of morale. But morale plummeted when I considered it was pretty silly to put on jacket and tie -- and shoes -- in order to watch a Zoom meeting of the regional school board.

Hell, I usually turn my laptop camera off, along with the sound, lest I blurt something untoward like "Oh, thanks for saying that for the fourth freaking time you idiot"
