The Fundamental Things Apply: Colour

Shirts - blue.  Knitwear - navy, dark green, maroon, off-white, heather.  Cords - green, navy, tan, off-white.  Outerwear - stone, 'grubby olive', natural, some variation on these.  Shoes - almost always brown: tan to cola. 
Is this 'getting old Ivy'?  I saw some wild colours at John Smedley, that I just couldn't wear.  Turquoise.  Purple.  Conservatism?

As I understand it, some of the stock in that Smedley shop is stuff that isn't selling well - hence the prevalence of wild colours.
