Just A Crazy Thought Concerning, Say, Stanley Blacker...

There is a certain ad - a certain image - TRS would know - of a Stanley Blacker blazer (yes? this is from memory alone).  I wonder if that garment (as an example) could be successfully copied by an English maker?  Do we assume they know a natural shoulder when they see it?  There is also a fair jacket - Chipp, circa 1951 - on offer on Ebay.  Do they know a 3/2 roll?  I wonder if TRS hung onto that similar era Press that made someone down at Chiltern Street arch his eyebrows...  I could not get away with wearing it...  Still, we're probably talking several hundred pounds, yes?  More?  I went to a master tailor back in 2005 wanting a suit made.  He took down the details, waxed enthusiastic..  I never heard another thing...  Needed: another Bilgorri...
Would anybody chance their arm?

Stanley Blacker pic.

It's up at my Pinterest and old Tumblr I think. I put the link up to the Tumblr recently but worth checking the Ivy pages there via: https://squareendknittedtie.tumblr.com/tagged/ivy%20look

Yes it's there on Page 8: https://squareendknittedtie.tumblr.com/tagged/ivy+look/page/8

I'm glad I kept all that there now - lots of old photos that have gone from other places.

Heavens, I've just seen that word Orlon.  But never mind.  Let's assume our would-be tailor can get hold of something a bit tasty.

Fantastic collection of images! I'll have to spend some time going through them. It would make a good Ivy quiz.

Lambswool?  I have fond memories of a Press jacket I grew out of some years ago.  Nice, luxurious feel to it.  A kind of sage green.

Re: Just A Crazy Thought Concerning, Say, Stanley Blacker...

when I had time I went through dozens, if not hundreds of books scanning in photos, preserving from fora etc, Twitter with permission etc. Where I could I always asked.  So never had any issues keeping the photos up.  Lots of the photos from books I don't have any more or only bought for 1-2 images then resold.  Stopped it in around 2018/9 when business got intense and I was travelling more.

Re: Just A Crazy Thought Concerning, Say, Stanley Blacker...

A while ago a mod guy who lives in Hull posted shots on IS FB group of a blazer he had made for him, copying an old 60s sack, and in the photos it looked superb. (He's probably lurking on here - the internet is small like that.) But I suspect a lot of British tailors wouldn't do quite such a good job.

Personally I'm not much of a blazer fan. The fact that 90% of posters on IS post selfies in which they're wearing blazer, medium to low rise chinos and a bow tie hasn't exactly improved my opinion. To be fair though a good blazer combined with something other than chinos can be outstanding. Obviously with flannels is the classic combination, but even when it looks good, in the UK it has certain unwanted connotations.

Blazers and UK tailors doing sack jackets have both been discussed in detail on here before incidentally. Indeed some years ago WM posted a very good shot of blazer with cords.

Isn't the S Blacker blazer shot the one where the model is standing by a petrol pump, enjoying a relaxing ciggie? In the days before health and safety went crazy. What could possibly go wrong?
