Re: GQ article on a new trend in ivy

'The issue can sometimes be that Talk Ivy becomes a home for general discussion and then people scratch their heads at the forum/us/whatever and say 'but that's nothing to do with it.'  I've been there in that situation as the person it's said to quite correctly.' (AUS)

Correct although it's true to a certain extent of any forum on any topic. Ivy Style is of course a US blog and FB page and it has articles on all sorts of loosely-related topics, as they are deemed to be part of an ivy lifestyle. In fact the gentleman running it now has little knowledge of ivy clothing and is far happier talking (at great length) about ivy as a concept. When it comes to talking about ivy clothing, he's lost.

Also re. the TI v IS feud: it wasn't completely UK v US and it wasn't completely silly: to many lovers of ivy clothing it was obvious that Chens was faking it and lacked a passion for ivy style.

Anyway, a head of steam has been built up: for several reasons.  Life in the old dog yet.  Carry on, old bongo player.

Re: GQ article on a new trend in ivy

"..., nonetheless there is a wealth of evidence to suggest that from around 1955 to 1967 a hell of a lot of males in the US were wearing a hell of a lot of ivy clothing. The majority of whom did not have an ivy lifestyle, nor were they trying to fake or aspire to one. They were comfortable, practical, fashionable clothes." (Yuca)

We have no disagreement on this. I wrote exactly that on another thread.

Thank you. Its name is Nicki.

I could no longer bear this pseudo-intellectual nonsense combined with ignorance about the subject and left the group a long time ago.

Seeing Nicki brightens up my day.  My old cat is now eighteen and limps badly.  The fifth I've owned.

Decent article. Nicholson and Garfunkel still look better than any of the modern takes linked to. Some of them are ok, some of them are just more in a never ending series of "how can we take a decent garment and make it look terrible" photos.

Agreed. Although I wouldn't wear a duffel personally, I love that shot.

Yeah, I wanted one for a long time, got one, realized I like them on other people but didn't seem to suit me.
