Actually I fully intend wearing it on the street sometime, in homage to the great John Simons, who was wearing an untucked denim shirt the first time I ever laid eyes on him.
The only shirts where I actually button the buttons. Don't ask me why. The image of the button-down shirt, on TV for example, has become largely a visual cliche. More to the point, it often looks bad and boring. There are exceptions of course: Ray in 'Hill Street Blues' does look pretty good.
Well my postscript to this 2016 post is that I picked up a lightweight denim button down in the NY Kamakura shop (now closed I believe). I really like wearing it under an olive tweed jacket with a maroon knitted tie, khaki cords and Paraboots … rugged Ivy with a Franco/Japanese flavour!!
Nice to see you around these parts Katon.
A Franco-Japanese flavour? Sounds like sushi combined with ice-cream.
Seriously, though, I would not contemplate wearing a tie with a denim shirt. Aren't denim and chambray supposed to be last word in slouch?
^ So you wouldn’t wear a tie with a chambray shirt? 2RS does it on his IG page.
This is perhaps the disruptive/subversive element in an outfit. The suede shoes worn with a suit, the loafers with no socks, the tennis shoes with chinos, the 5 pocket cords with a tailored tweed jacket
Besides - not nit-picking - but denim and chambray are not one and the same. I've seen the photographs. But I haven't worn a tie for ten years or more. TRS also 'invested' at some point in a grey shirt - then changed his mind about it. These things happen. But I would never wear a grey shirt any more than a black or red one. He wears his clothes better than I. But, if I have to admit to studying anyone, it would be Ken Lovegrove (often pocket polo, jeans and bucks) or Jeff (sometimes RL, sometimes a sweatshirt, but very satisfying in his look). Besides, our Gibson is tall and handsome and I am little and tubby.
