Carroll & Co. is arguably the best independent menswear store in SoCal. (I think Gary's would be its only real rival, but I prefer Carroll.) That said, I really haven't bought much from them--two ascots, three neckties (on sale) and a bottle of their proprietary cologne.

Nice article, although I think Mr. Carroll is being charitable in remarking that today's cast of characters in Hollywood look great.  I cannot think of a one I want to emulate.  Stylists are like interior decorators: Great spenders of others' money.

Very nice safari-type jacket on their Website.  Expensive, though.  Where do they think they are, Beverly Hills???

Re: Carroll & Co. & Hollywood's Golden Age

I bought a Carroll gray flannel suit a few years ago on EBay (trying to channel Fred again). Trouble was that the quality didn't seem up to Barbera or Saint Andrews. I can't imagine that the cardigan quality from the website is as good, say, as the Avon Celli or similar that Grayson is used to from Davide Cenci.

Regards,

Steven
