For the first time in a while I bought from an Etsy seller and they gave me a decent fee of $37 for a pair of trousers and a 60s sweat posted flat rate priority.
The deal was sweetened by 30% off the items I bought and they didn't put the value on the package which is a boon for us buying in UK not wanting to feel the pinch of HMRC.
I thought that I'd hit the motherload today. Patch madras everywhere as far the eye could see. On sale for only 29.90 and 49.90! But, the people who runs that site must be sadists. Whenever I tried to add a pair of shorts to the cart a popup window appeared on the computer screen telling me 'Product not available based on your selections'.

Re 'Take Ivy' - some excellent shots but I have concluded that an Englishman of my age could not carry them off. I once wore pink seersucker in Focus and probably got some funny looks. Shirts only then - and long sleeves at that.
Talking of 'shorts' in general, it seems that every other cock in the UK, of whatever age, insists on wearing them until the first snow flurries.
^ If you’re a postman - 12 months of the year.
Must be the new Covid - a pandemic of hairy legs.
I bought some quality madras style shorts from Brooks in the summer. I find I can only wear them if I keep the top half of the outfit very plain - navy or white.
I purchased my first pair of Ralph patch madras on holiday in Boston many years ago. They are without a doubt the most comfortable item of clothing I own.Perfect for wearing on a US holiday.
In the UK I don’t care if they’re considered odd. Most men I come across are so clueless when it comes to what to wear in the Summer in any case. What is the obsession they have with denim shorts?
If I were twenty years younger... But you're the first to admit to wearing patch Madras. I saw a shirt on offer a few days ago and was almost tempted.
@Alvey +1 on the RL patch madras shorts, a thing of beauty that I really enjoy wearing with a navy blue polo. My other favorite shorts purchase in recent times is a pair of Brooks Bros Bermudas in a heavy linen, olive colour with a reddish plaid pattern, looks better than it sounds, again very comfortable.
This is exactly the time when we need photographs!
Years ago I found myself in Topshop Oxford St whilst shopping with my wife. They had a men's vintage section and I bought a pair of made in India Madras shorts. I still wear them in summer with short sleeved polo shirts. Normally a plain white or plum John Smedley. And boat shoes. It's a look not out of place by the seaside and worn by an old geezer.
The length of the shorts is the main consideration for me.
I've been on the lookout for a pair of madras or checked shorts for some time now, still looking, but it would have to be a 3-4 piece purchase including 2-3 plain shirts, like you Robbie I'd need to be mindful of the length of the shorts as heightwise I'd have fitted into the Small Faces quite easily , my legs like my forearms are in good shape for one of advancing years , hehe
Woof
Check out the dark blue seersucker shorts Brooks do.
Great fit,rise and material
I might well consider foregoing my cold weather payment for a glimpse of Woof washing his Saab in patch Madras shorts.
I used to have a pair of Madras Duck Head shorts, picked up in States for under 20 bucks. I bought them early 90's and they were part of a cull of Ivy clothing when I went all designer, don't ask why. Anyway myself and the CFO were round our friends a few weeks back and we were watching some old videos of the kids parties and there am a can of lager in hand in the brightest of yellow polo's these Duck Head Madras shorts and Weejuns, thinking I look the dogs dinner

Isn't 'the dogs bollocks' the preferred expression? A dogs dinner sounds more like a pigs breakfast. But I see what you're getting at. Now, exchange Duck Head and lager for grey flannels and a glass of red and you're made. You can keep the Weejuns, so long as they were made in Maine.
Definitely Maine, wouldn't wear anything else, and I meant the dogs bollocks : )
