Made in Portugal Clarks desert boots

Was bought some cola Clarks desert boots the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the quality (not first rate but better than before).

Turned to check the label and realized they're now made in Portugal rather than / as well as Vietnam.

Suede seemed slightly darker and the shoe slightly more robust. Given all the interest in Astorflex thought I'd flag in case anyone interested.

Re: Made in Portugal Clarks desert boots

^ Thanks, Colin.  Astorflex have attracted a lot of interest in the past few years (not sure how many: at least ten, I think.  TRS knows more.  I'm pretty sure he has some of the originals - Weejun connection - that is, our old shoe expert rather than the loafer).  I've bought two pairs and they're worth every penny.  Inexpensive, too.  But I think that's good news about Clarks' coming back into Europe.  I saw a very lovely pair in a kind of ginger/cinnamon/nutmeg/what you will knocked down to £77 in Nottingham a month or two back.  Not my size unfortunately otherwise I might have been interested.
I think Nicholas Deakin also have their shoes/boots made in Portugal.  A similar price to Astorflex but they don't get much attention on here.  I like mine - wore them on Saturday with Levis.

Re: Made in Portugal Clarks desert boots

I was pulled up on this site once for being derogatory about stuff made in Portugal. I've since changed my mind having gone there a few times. I like the country and its people. Made in Portugal has gone up in my estimation and I'm pleased if Clarks etc. are manufacturing shoes there.
And Portugal are England's oldest allies.

I think Roamers were - perhaps still are - made in Portugal.  They used to be awful, possibly the worse desert boot made.  I think they may have improved somewhat.
