A serious point to all this: anyone curious just looking in ('lurking': most of us did it) can benefit from reading this thread. It does give sound advice upon choice of colour for at least shirts and shoes. Black speaks for itself. Brown - well that provides you with an embarrassment of riches. No-one on this forum will not own something in tan, wine, khaki, cola, snuff, cinnamon, that lovely shade that is cordovan. Then there is the white shoe: bucks if bold, sneakers or boat shoes if a little hesitant. A shirt in pale blue, white, candy/university stripe - even pink - with a good collar roll is guaranteed to take you places.
As for the shoulder line, patch and flap pockets, hook vents, raised seams and so on - keep digging.
