'Has anyone ever seen a Brooks Brothers Shirt with the famous G stamp on the tail which was made by Gant Shirtmakers. Iv been told that Gant made shirts for Brooks in the 40s.

I didn't even know Gant existed in the 40s. Nor that they had ever made shirts for Brooks. Is your source for this reliable?

JFM had a thread on labels; still enormously interesting; the Mercer label is described as 'sucky'. 
I'm still not sure about this newly acquired Makers shirt, which I washed carefully yesterday afternoon before putting on a hanger to dry in a gentle breeze.  It's very 'sporty' looking: yellow background with red and green stripes.  Maybe to be worn with jeans or chinos rather than anything a touch more formal. 
I'd like to think it dates back to the 50s.  Love that long tail.

I'm hugely indebted to our Gibson for dating the shirt back to the 1960s: thus making it the oldest Brooks item I have in my wardrobe. 
I do get - as I think Jimmy did - a good deal of pleasure out of examining labels.

Chums. Re: the longer tail.  I liked the old “scooped??  tail (perhaps there is a name for it) that was longer and offered on a lot of shirts back in the old days.  Troy shirts had those.  And older Brooks.

A pity that the brooks archive was never fully studied and a volume issued with photos or illustrations detailing the changes - the continuities and discontinuities of the the sacred ol’ OCBD from its first recognizable modern iteration until now. Many have written on it 6 v 7 buttons, the collar, the lining, the placket, pocket or no.  The collar button etc etc etc — But it’d be nice to have it all in one place.
