I was always suspicious of Uniqlo, even when it was getting a good press from some on 'Talk Ivy' a dozen and more years ago. I believe my younger daughter has acquired a few bits and pieces. Hasn't the quality (such as it was) gone downhill?
I'm more than willing to applaud Community Clothing, whilst at the same time not being very interested in their products on the sole grounds of already having a packed wardrobe. But their business model sounds admirable. I predict, however, that enthusiasm amongst the majority will be short-lived.
I've not bought anything yet however to me it looks like a 2022 UK ivy wearer's dream come true. Chinos, selvedge jeans, cotton sweaters etc, classic designs with no external logos, made in the UK, and the prices are actually reasonable. Why on earth would enthusiasm for such things be short-lived?
No they don't do sack jackets or suits or even soft collar shirts, etc etc, but this is 2022 - realistically most of us rarely wear such things. The casualisation trend of menswear has become massively exaggerated by the pandemic. Why wear a beautiful Makers suit, shirt etc etc if I have to wear them with a face mask?
I have no intention of getting rid of my BDs, ties, sacks, full length overcoats etc, but realistically I'm going to be spending a lot of the future in more casual gear. (Particularly if I can fulfil my ambition of never living in a cold country again.) CC is probably a bit more expensive than Uniqlo but from the site I suspect the clothes are better quality.
I'm biased as I just spent 3 years in S America, where the concept of classic or retro clothing simply doesn't exist. I received a number of comments about how old-fashioned my clothes were - and that was for chinos, desert boots or loafers and polo shirts (Smedley/Sunspel etc). Which I still intend to maintain as my go to tropical look, but mixed with jeans, boat shoes and a G9, 60/40 or a cotton sweater on the rare occasions the weather calls for it. (I gave up with half sleeve BDs, lightweight sack jackets etc soon after arriving there.)

At the same time, I acted in 1 film and was an extra in another, and in both cases I was the only person allowed to wear their own clothes. So those classic suits etc did come in useful. Likewise some proper ivy garments did get compliments from even the most fashion-conscious honeys. Plus I had colleagues asking me where I got certain items (desert boots and madras ties as I recall).
As always, dressing strangely gets a mixed response.

One guy in Cali almost prostrated himself when he clocked my Redwings.
I see CC are doing the already highly banal 'chore jacket'. But their knitwear looks reasonable enough.
Actually, just to talk them up a bit, Yuca probably hits on a decent point or two. Bringing in the good stuff from the USA has become pretty prohibitive one way and another, so a mixing (shall we say) of CC and Chiltern Street plus the decent pieces cropping up elsewhere that take the fancy might suffice. Little sense in looking to Brooks Brothers - might as well stick with M&S. But, as I've said elsewhere, I now need to be winding down my wardrobe again, not looking for additional items.

Judging by the lambswool crew neck I bought from them it is more than reasonable. A relaxed adequate fit but not too loose, good quality sumptuous wool with that nice smell that jumpers used to smell like.Everything that we wish M&S and Alan Paine still were. Sensibly priced as well.
^ That's nice to know. I've bought three of the old Made In England M&S lambswool v-necks recently and wear them week in week out. One navy, one stone, one marl. They were a stand-by twenty years ago when I was still buggering about in schools - those and Ralph Lauren shirts.
I'd be interested to know what occasional posters like Uncle Ian and Hill Rise think.
Some decent chinos for sale at £25 or Best Offer On Ebay. I'm sorely tempted.
I class CC chinos as passable. Not that great but for 25 quid worth it. When they're new they're shiny but that disappears after washing.
Some of the details aren't ideal. The rise is pretty impressive.
I very much like the idea of 'Made In Blackburn'. It makes a refreshing change from the usual, dreary outsourced names.
The packed wardrobe... It truly is... I gave a Grenfell coat to a local wildlife charity at the end of last week... A small pile of stuff lies at the side of the bed, folded and ready to be bagged for Cancer Research...
If only I could stop buying. But it's become a habit, almost an addiction.
Point taken. But I'm the same with books, CDs, DVDs.
The Invertere might well be the next to go.
I'm in love still with grey herringbone...
