Bagged A Bargain Today?

A bit of a sequel to Alvey's thread/inquiries on buying 'vintage' clothing.
Does anyone remember the John Simons/Aertex collaboration of around ten years ago?  I bought something or other at the same time I bought one of the seersucker caps and an unlined J.Press jacket.
Trawling on Ebay some weeks ago I came across an Aertex Madras shirt, allegedly from the 1960s.  XL but apparently a bit fitted - not my usual kind of thing but, losing weight steadily, I'm trying to be fairly cautious about new purchases.  But this shirt hung around and hung around - until I finally bought it this morning.  I've no real idea of what it will be like but, for a fiver, I'm willing to take a chance.
Wouldn't you?

Of course, looking at the thread above, it's perfectly possible your bargain will fail to turn up.

Re: Bagged A Bargain Today?

No specific clothing bargains.  To your point on Aertex, I recall a joint feature Aertex did with John Simons to promote that collaboration.

I recall people here saying it didn't really happen at scale and John saying there was some kind of breakdown before it really got going.  Infact, I think he may of said it to me himself when I asked. That was around 2011 I guess it was promoted and I was going in a fair bit to support the new shop.

I do recall putting it up at the picture blog I did that is still somehow up it seems: https://squareendknittedtie.tumblr.com/  - you'll probably find it if you click through the pages of this area (link is at the bottom, it should be a bit of fun anyway): https://squareendknittedtie.tumblr.com/tagged/ivy%20look

(edit: just search Aertex at the top of the page and a picture of the raincoat and some coverage is there. I recall a full page promotional thing with more pictures that I think was at the old John Simons site and possibly even at the Aertex old site too - gone from both new sites now - see links below that have more full coverage and pictures)

I'm buying bargains at t'bay but they are all plants at the moment. I have wanted to do it for a while, so this year I've started to grow succulent houseplants - Crassulas, Sedums and the like. Some amazing plants and they are very cheap.  The same thrill of an Ivy clothing find, but generally a fraction of the price.

Re: Bagged A Bargain Today?

I'm somewhat vague about it all now, to be honest.  There was too much going on in my life in 2012.  But I do remember some sniffy remarks about the get-together.  I'd very much like to see one of those raincoats.  I wonder if they were anything like the unlined Brooks I like so much.  Utterly useless in an English downpour, though, as I found out once on a visit to Calke Abbey.

Re: Bagged A Bargain Today?

Seems a fair bit on it here: https://www.modculture.co.uk/aertex-x-john-simons-range-images/ - quite a few pictures there.

https://www.thetweedpig.com/2011/07/john-simons-and-aertex-collection.html

But I'm pretty sure that beyond a few samples it was all abandoned and was a thing John would umm about, shuffle his feet then divert you to some lovely looking item.

(EDIT) seems to of been captured here at the forum: https://forums.filmnoirbuff.com/viewtopic.php?id=9899

Samples produced then 'something went wrong at the Aertex end'.  When I asked in the shop, it never really got that far.  Samples are just test pieces - I'm entirely guessing somebody needed to fund it all and the two parties ended up looking at each other.  See that a lot in business.
