Re: Is The 'Chore Jacket' The New ''arrington'?

a mate of mine had a lime green one.

@Robbie, I worked the last day of trading at The Ivy Shop Richmond, we pretty much sold everything, I remember there was a Lime Green Baracuta left, I was tempted to have it, but regrettably passed on it.
Had a couple of BD's and a Chemise Lacoste instead.

Chore jacket sighting on British Pottery Throw Down last night... but then the judges are genuine top potters.  I think it is allowed on craftspeople.

Re: Is The 'Chore Jacket' The New ''arrington'?

BTW Burgundy harringtons in the 80s were the exclusive preserve of 'West Ham' Skins.... don't be caught in one and not have a pen ink tattoo of the 'ammers

I like the Grenfell Harringtons because (1) they are equally original in heritage to Barracuta but not spoiled like theirs are now (2) still made in UK with their nice check inside plus metal zips and (3) do not look at all 'scene' based, with the softer inner collar and cuffs.

I do have an green/olive Lands End one from about 15 years ago that has a zip in hood in the collar and vertical mobile phone pocket. It wasn't expensive and I bought for walking the dog (RIP) but gets very positive comment from friends who know their onions.  Nothing like that available there now and I'll end up getting a Grenfell in Olive/green at some point I'm sure.  I have Beige (ciose to Olive, not tan) and French Navy (errr.... navy) - which seem versatile colours.  I like their check inside too - far less obtrusive than the others we see around.  Even my kids can recognise a Ben Sherman harrington at fifty paces.

I used to have a nice yellow McGregor Drizzler, bought during the days when Ebay Com. was still (relatively) cheap and (sometimes) cheerful.  It came from an ex-serviceman who'd worn it when based over here (near Ipswich if memory serves me well), so it had a nice bit of history attached to it.  2009, that would have been.  Sadly, I outgrew it.  I also had an Anti-Freeze and Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets - and London Fog - just to ring the changes.  I was rather fond of the Peters, which was the colour of milky cocoa.  I wonder if you can still buy them.

The 'Swingster' isn't half bad.  Slightly under the radar, like King Louie.

Uncle Ian-We used to visit the coast on bank holiday weekends. Clacton, Southend, Canvey Island, Brighton and later Torquay. Our gang did get about a bit. I can still remember the Harrington colours of each mate.

Hope you didn't encounter too many rockers.

Actually a very good mate of mine (RIP) was a biker. By the mid 1990s the mods 'n' rockers concept seemed completely irrelevant, whereas even a few years before it still seemed like a big deal to me.

No we didn't encounter many rockers. We were more likely to end up arguing with each other.

Harrington colour is an emotive topic.

Re: Is The 'Chore Jacket' The New ''arrington'?

Few years ago I was drinking at The Cricketers in Pirbright (didn’t Runningeez mention that the other day?) with one of the local scooter clubs. Down the road came a gang of (proper) bikers. To my terror they pulled into the car park and very aggressively piled into the pub. Turned out they’d had a fall out with the local bike club and having been misinformed that this was their pub, travelled some distance to have it out. Once they realised their error they stayed for a beer and a chat. Decent fellas all.
I forget which colour harrington I was wearing that night

I didn’t need to resort to violence Yuca.

As it turned out the sight of a grown man weeping and begging for his life while wetting his Levi’s was enough to send them on their way.

If you're going to piss your trousers then Levis are the best choice as you can always claim they're shrink to fit.

@Spendthrift, yes I did mention The Cricketers Pirbright, I meet up there, with a mate every Friday afternoon. Had a stack of money spent on it just before the first lockdown which reflects some of prices they charge for beer and wines.

Well I hope they did a good job and managed to turn it round.

I love those scootering folk but by god they never liked a decent pub!
