Blue/Gray ???

Some people wear Blue suits.

Some people wear Grey suits.

But who is best?

Isn't it time that this was settled here on the fori?

Grey if single-breasted, and Blue if double. At least on my frame.

Grey might offer more versatility in that, depending on the fabric, you might be able to break up the grey suit and wear a blue blazer with the trousers.  You also have a bit more versatility with shoes---Brown shoes, both suede and smooth leather, can be worn with both a grey and a blue suit, but you need to be more careful to wear the right brown shoes with a blue suit.

Re: Blue/Gray ???

And it could be argued that blue is better for evening occasions when a suit is required.

Re: Blue/Gray ???

I have suits in both blue and gray. I strongly favor the blue, but then my gray suits are the cheapest, least well made suits I own. However, I rarely wear suits.

Among my odd jackets I have two blue blazers, a lightweight wool sport coat in navy with an overplaid and a blue herringbone tweed. I hope to get one more blue blazer in the near future. I do not own a gray jacket and have no plans to get one. I guess I am definitely a "blue" person, which comes perhaps by heredity. My great-grandfather served in the Army of the Potomac and lost his arm in the Battle of the Wildnerness. My father was an officer in the Dutch navy.

Re: Blue/Gray ???

There's certainly room for both and I really like Cooley's daytime/evening divide. Like Shooey says Navy has a little more formality to my eye too somehow.

I'm a Grey suit man on the rare occasions I get suited up these days mainly for the reasons that Marc states - I find that you can do more with a Grey suit. I find that for me more goes with it in terms of bringing in other colours.

I also like the spectrum of Greys including the Grey/Blue borderline (which always makes me think of Breakfast At Tiffanys and THAT suit).

A tip of the hat to Eg who got the Civil War ref. - It's nice to be among such thinking company.

Re: Blue/Gray ???

I only have one suit and it is gray.  I would like to get a navy one, and a seersucker one for summer.  At age 23 I don't have that much occasion to wear suits often.

Blue wool for me.  Though  I think if I could have but one Seersucker, it would be grey or that color that Coolidge thought was blue.

Neither. Dark green or tan.
