Re: The Style of Mr. John Simons

Though I do wonder why he felt the need to ring the changes.

'Rarely seemed self-conscious about the clothes on his back'.

Re: The Style of Mr. John Simons

Interesting evolution, as seen on Farcebook.

A pointer perhaps.

'A lack of posing'.  Some should take note.

^ Pay heed, if you've a mind, to the earlier observations of The Guv'Nor at work.  Always less is more.  Jeff and Kenny were the same.  So, I'd hazard a guess, were Mr.Strachan, Sir John Lally and others.  Pared down.  Stripped down.  So difficult to pull off if you're the least bit self-conscious about your clothing.  So straightforward if you've mastered the basics.  The polo shirt works.  So does the denim or chambray button-down.  Cords or jeans.  Plain white sneakers.  No socks at appropriate times of the year.  All 'Ivy'.

Re: The Style of Mr. John Simons

As a postscript (perhaps) and in connection with TRSs post on 'Straying', John Simons is perhaps the pack leader in this respect.  In fact, I'd now go so far as to say that pure 'Ivy League' formed only a component of what his look and vision have been about.  Perhaps substitute 'Modernist' for 'Ivy/Beat Mod' (or whatever your heart desires).  I'm not surprised, after so many years of commitment to the cause, that TRS had a mild flirtation with A.N. Other.  But I have one of those Stetson caps myself (often tossed carelessly onto the back seat of our ageing VW), and I've worn Filson and Paraboot (but not, in either instance, for long).

GG - ‘The man has always been cool but has rarely seemed self-conscious about the clothes on his back.’

Terrific observation that. Something to work at and aspire to there. I wonder if it can be achieved by those of us who are verging on collating, rather than wearing?

How many items would JS have hanging in his own wardrobe. Or the other fellas mentioned?

To borrow a phrase, John is John.
