Tim - not trying to offer you a ' personal shopper' service but I did a google search out of interest of what's about and came up with the following website in Italy, they have the navy with interestingly a zip out liner, I believe you're in Eire so EU avoiding the issues we have in the UK when buying from the EU,

Thanks Stax, - in all fairness I could probably do with a personal shopper! The ones on the JS website have no detachable liner as you say but do have the detachable hood, they call it a pac-a-mac Martin, so who knows how it differs from yours. Not sure how I feel about the hood, detach permanently I expect. How is yours length-wise? Call me odd but I prefer something a touch further up the thigh than the model on the site you posted.

I've about a zillion things I wish to try on while in London, for lack of availability "in the flesh" here. The poor shop-keeps will be sick of me but as you rightly say, I'll be able to purchase via the web without being shafted too much by the tax-man once I get home!

Thanks again Stax, I think the confusion is kicking in because on the JS website, they call it a Martin pac a mac (https://johnsimons.co.uk/product/martin-pac-a-mac-navy/). I've only just clocked their own-brand mac style coat too, in Olive Green. Pity about the colour, it looks ideal! No idea what size I'm likely to take, I don't understand continental sizing at all. I'm currently measuring off my shoulders rather than chest as I'm still loosing weight but my shoulders remain 99.9% consistent regardless of where I am on that particular table..

One of them wanted to settle ‘the tab’ and then add a tip. One of the women thought celeriac was a misspelling on a menu they were discussing. None of them had the faintest idea what it was.

As they left, one of the women asked if she could take a beermat. ‘I have a beer room at home’ says she.

That’s the trouble when places get on a tourist trail. They should not be allowed in.

Same with football. Talking about football and saying ‘one zero’ like Thomas Tuchel. He has the excuse that German is his first language though.

Seen out yesterday, a man, older than I, filling up with petrol.  (£61!).  He was wearing a short-sleeved check shirt and khakis.  I could not see his shoes but they were probably some cheap, badly-made, ill-looking thing rather than, for example, loafers or Keds.  Polo shirts were to be seen here and there, almost always untucked and worn without any sense of style.

'Hunt Club' Madras shirt.  Sleeves rolled to the elbow.  USA-made.  There's a tiny prancing horse on the breast pocket.  So is it a deliberate imitation of the polo player and his mount?  I don't know.

Trip into London today to meet up with forum member Tim from the Emerald Isle, in town to visit his old stamping grounds. Visits to places of Ivy interest followed by Soho lunch. As mentioned above, been in London the last couple of days, meeting old friends & new, including the delightful Mr Woofboxer as well as conducting a modicum of “retail therapy?? .

Woof bought some undergarments at one point - he had mention he’d served a modicum of time in the military and I can only assume it must have been in the Para’s because given their voluminous size, he managed to pack ‘em up pretty small!

Bloody Hell Tim! A modicum? I'd love to see what happens when you binge. That's a supreme effort for one weekend. Two pairs of Paraboots! Can't argue with any of that. I applaud you sir.

I've got a pair of trousers very similar to those Uniqlos. From Gap a few years ago. Not particularly Ivy, but great with a sweat or T shirt for knocking around/outdoor days out with kids ect.

Today. Old Gant light blue gingham ocbd, navy cotton M&S crew, Gant Arley sand colour jeans, navy no name chore jacket, navy wool mix ball cap, chocolate MiE Clarks db's.

Alright, I may have crossed the line from modicum into serious splurge in between writing my last post and my flight this morning.
I'd had a major issue with my hotel (the neighbors were smoking dope in a non-smoking hotel until the wee hours of Saturday morning) with the result that I've only had to pay for one nights stay - it's left me feeling somewhat more flush than anticipated so the final moment of madness came when waiting at my boarding gate in Heathrow. Alden LHS in Shell 8 from US eBay. - As Woof can attest, I tried them on in Clutch and then again in Trunk on Saturday when I returned to JS for round 2 (and to try a pair of Dexters that Woof had kindly left there for me, alas, too small) so I had a pretty shrewd idea what size I needed and it just so happened there was a little-worn pair available. 380 US including shipping. With a bit of luck, by the time they get here I may have saved enough to pay the import fees!!

Woof - yes, Jake was there, delightful young man, clearly full of passion about what he does and has a really good understanding of the style also. The pre-made chambray I bought from him is incredibly close to my US-Made BB in shape and fit and better in quality (both fabric and generally) - and beloved by you pleats on the sleeve. it also has the added bonus (for some anyway..) of a third collar button and a locker loop, I'm very very pleased with it and will have no hesitation ordering from him in the future.
