The Commuter Coat

I have to confess, this is a new one on me, turned up whilst trawling Ebay Com. for a decent polo coat (at a decent price - nothing much doing so far, especially as this fucking government insists on levying $40-plus dollars for the privilege of allowing it into the country).  The first commuter coat I saw was made by Ralph Lauren (in Macao, I think, so I wouldn't be interested anyway) and looks to my weary, wary eyes not unlike a chore coat.  I'm probably talking bollocks but has anyone on here chanced across such an article?

Re: The Commuter Coat

I’ve seen plenty of coats described as commuter coats. Usually they’re like a hybrid mid length trench/parka.

Cut and collar like a trench, with medium padding and a hood either grown on or foldaway.

Re: The Commuter Coat

Is this a new hookline for a car coat perhaps?

Marketing coats as car coats died off as soon as cars had decent heaters as standard.

Re: The Commuter Coat

Thanks, chaps.  I think Woof has a point^ about car coats.  They do not look especially alluring.
