Lining to to the knee is essential with tweed trousers. Otherwise; ooooh the chafing on your inner thighs…. it just doesn’t bear thinking about.
Tim, I guess you've tried Kevin & Howlin in Dublin for your Donegal tweed needs? Their jackets aren't Ivy, but aren't too bad. (Or at least weren't, the last time I tried one on there.) They have a wide selection of stuff, some nice accessories. Certainly better than Magee, which these days deal largely in the dreaded "contemporary styling".
But I don't know if the trousers are half lined...
I've not yet tried Kevin & Howlin, although I did pay their equivalent in Cork a visit last year. I rarely get up to Dublin (I'm in Waterford) - I think the last time I was in central Dublin was 2016! It's a pair in dark brown salt-and-pepper and likewise dark grey I'm hunting for. The brown with any of my no 8 cordovan shoes and the grey with the only two pairs of black shoes I own, plain-caps and longwings.
Double denim’ing is a cardinal sin as everyone knows. But what about double tweeding? Is okay to wear your Donegal tweed strides with yer ‘arris tweed jacket, or is it a fast ticket to Ivy purgatory?
