I still have one in navy. Three grown men had good service out of those my father brought back from the States: him, me and my Wigan Casino-devotee brother-in-law. Though I cannot remember for the life of me why I moved them on.
Olive - nice, very nice.
I could be wrong, but the Ivy Shop Richmond also sold a cotton pique Smedley back in the mid 80's in various colours alongside Lacoste.
I spent lunchtime sitting opposite my 77 year old cousin in a pub. He had on a mid blue Lacoste jumper with a BD chambray shirt, off white chinos and tassel loafers. He out ivyed me but clothes weren't mentioned.
For me Lacoste has to made in France and how much is? I do have some made in France jumpers but no polo shirts.
I'm not a fan of any logos but for me a Fred Perry logo is far superior. Nostalgia. Fred Perry made in England, Italy or Japan are my thing. Smedley polo even better but sizing is more difficult.
Back in the late 70's Robbie, Fred Perry made polo's for the US market. They had a longer tail at the back like RL's and also the colours were vivid and bright. I bought a couple one in a bright Kelly Green the other was a pink/cerise.

Robbie - I bet you've always looked up to him clothes-wise,
Stax- I do look up to him clothes wise and I have another cousin in his mid seventies who dresses likewise. They both have a liking for Lacoste knitwear and polos. We never really talk much about clothes but there is the occasional nod of respect and they both frown on me wearing jeans.

You young upstart Robbie!
We picked up a very decent navy wool/cashmere sweater for one of our daughters earlier in the year. Again, it was a lucky charity shop buy, from the same unpromising place that I bought my Aquascutum raincoat. The sweater was with the mens clothing and was made in France. But I see various examples of Lacoste on every other visit to the local shops and, heavens above, our window cleaner wears one of their polo shirts. I'd have worn the sweater myself, though, had it been a couple of sizes bigger. But I would prefer their stuff to drop the croc.
Woof- HaHa young upstart indeed!
