From '78 I've kept the faith with a style of personal presentation completely at odds with my personality. I love all that.
There are no 'rebel' uniforms left. So subversion is the only way.
I chose the dress of my Jazz heroes. And then explored a bit more.
Bill Evans is perfection to me (on certain album covers).
I LOVED the punk attitude - My only quibble was that Punks looked like Punks. Not a mistake that I'd ever make.
Later came all that Mod revival stuff... Kid's stuff. Rubbish.
I've never worn a badge in my life.
Mick Norton taught me English Politics and Government once - He told us that if we had any interest in politics we should all join the Tory party. This was in 1982. He was a wonderful Scottish Lefty with amazing shades.
Clever people don't wear badges.

Yeah, I've noticed that all the interesting people I meet do not outwardly wear their interestingness. The tatted up, blinged out, or trendy people are almost always a bore. Anything of interest is on the surface.

An 'under the radar' thread which met with minimal traction even at the time. It was - and remains - very very valid.
In a different context, one of the old football types commented on how useful it was looking like Ronnie Corbett back in the 80s: 'People didn't know what you were doing'. He might have expressed himself better but one got the gist.
