Talking Of Shirts... Hartford...

Am I remembering the name correctly?  I only had the one, I think, a soft cotton without a button-down collar.  Various coloured stripes.

My memory is beginning to fail me.  I read some of my own crappy postings from 2009 and can't remember owning the clothes I'm waffling about.  This shirt would come into that category.  Now that I buy far less hopefully this problem will not reoccur.  Having said that, I dipped into the back of the wardrobe not so long ago, looking for a bottle green slipover.
It appeared to have slipped away...

Re: Talking Of Shirts... Hartford...

Yes it was Hartford. I first picked up on them in the late 80's, a shop close to where I live, Harrington in Guildford started to sell them. I bought a light blue & white cotton oxford butcher stripe. A few years later I picked up a couple in JS, a BD which was  mainly navy with red, green & yellow plaid. Hartford also had an unusual take on the polo shirt. Thick cotton pique with a spread/cutaway collar and breast pocket, (which I still own). I stupidly got rid of the plaid BD many years back but have recently replaced it with a made in the USA vintage LLB, almost a carbon copy.

Re: Talking Of Shirts... Hartford...

Had a couple of 1/2 sleeve Hartfords from the IS in mid '80's,(made in France in those days, dunno about later), lovely shirts,  also 4 from Russell St, I'm sure a couple had no labels in them and as I recall was told they were Hartford samples, one in particular was a lovely lightweight oxford , orange with blue/white check , and I also had one of those polo shirts , excellent polo, probably oiked it out as I'd gone off of the colour,
not sure if you knew this Runninggeez , the guy who owned Harringtons in Guildford, ( Ian...) was an ex IS guy, behind the curtain 1/2 way down the shop he had a copy of the (fairly) well known '60's photo of the IS guys (incl him),with John Lally wearing the sombrero, he knew I shopped at the IS in the heyday and always chatted, when Gant opened their own store in Guildford around 2010 it was the demise of his shop, he told me 50% of his business was Gant, he'd sold Gant from pre-logo days, I remember also 'Brooks' shirts he sold,(no connection with BBs), they were Italian, but very similar to the Hartfords,

I love all this, Stax.  Apparently some of that old Gant can fetch high prices on Ebay and elsewhere, but I don't know how often it crops up.

I'd forgotten all about that sombrero picture.

I'd give a great deal to have that soft, comfortable shirt back in my wardrobe - supposing, of course, that it still fitted.

Mid 80s I wore a lot of Gant clothing.I don't remember any logos but one jacket had an elaborate lining with a golfer image. I think it was called the golfer.

The jacket was a formal 2 button jacket in green with a centre vent.
