Dear All,
i have totally forgotten my password and have had to open a new account.. darn computers!
the grenfell court judgement website applies to a company (now in liquidated) called Grenfell UK Ltd / Bow Clothing Ltd... The Royal Warrant was not given to this company, and the website has got nothing to do with the Grenfell name. The Royal Warrant was given to Haythornthwaite & Son Ltd, and the name 'Grenfell' is a trademark of Haythornthwaite & Sons Ltd... The court judgement website has been made incorrectly.. for which legal action has being sought.
Mr Simons buys ex-stock off 'Grenfell..'.. Recent increases in cotton prices have made it difficult to turn over a profit, esp for retailers.. quality is hard to come by these days, especially in regards with craftsmanship. A visit down to his beautiful new shop on Chiltern St will show new Grenfell stock..
Grenfell are one of the only English based manufacturers left... and the likes of Stuart at May Trading are making it difficult (under actions for a different company) to supply customers with this quality. May Trading itself manufactures for other brands, abroad, such as River Island, cheaper end, and would not understand quality if they see it.
I cant defend the actions of individuals who have worked, owned or managed other companies, as i am too merely an outsider, but i always take each individual as i see them.. I have also been in business long enough to know that out of a tree, a bad apple can fall at times, and mistakes and misunderstandings can occur for reasons which cannot be controlled... but i have belived the best way to deal with this is with modesty, being humble at all times and with dignity... Im afraid i cannot say this for Stuart at May Trading.
All the best, Max.
PS. A poster i read off a wall whilst visiting the workshops of Grenfell:
'Quality is never an accident; its always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skilful execution...'
Hi Max - It's been a while & I've not been well, I never answered your post above. Probably the moment has passed?
JS remains in business with a new shop that sells Grenfell on & off.
Your input is always of interest.
Best -
Jim.
Popped into Chiltern St today and like Max says Messrs Simons currently have some cracking spring-weight Grenfell overcoats as well as the odd tweedy one and short macs, well worth a little looksee.
What's the story with it now? I've got a funny old Grenfell zip-up with side adjusters that I assume is the 'real deal'. Looks dead square. I think eris has one exactly like it. T'other thing I have is autumn/winter wear with a thick sweater underneath.

Perfect length in my opinion but then I'm short so like a slightly shorter length in normally long coats. It adds some illusion of stature.
Totally agree with Liam, Yuca. A perfect length above the knee IMHO. I recently agonized over a 60's Canadian made Aquascutum trench in a local shop. Beautiful - with unusual silk 'pyjama' style lining. Tried it on three days on the trot but ultimately turned it down. Fitted well but simply too long for me. And I feared that an alteration would ruin the balance of button stance, pocket position etc.

A timely bump. I didn't half enjoy this at the time, though raised an eyebrow over Mr. Simons telling 'porkies'. What would be the advantage in doing so?
The first Grenfell jacket I owned I went off. Can't remember why. The second was passed on to a former poster. The third is hanging in my wardrobe, Royal Warrant and all, and was a bargain at £25. The sellers (in Co.Durham) do house clearance, so it was presumably acquired with a rusty bedstead, coal scuttle and three-piece suite etc. It looks the mongrels' bollocks and that's that.
So, whatever happened to Bramble? Did it simply come and go?
I tend to eye Grenfell more than Burberry(s').
A Grenfell tagged as 'Campbell' on offer on Ebay. £899.99. Being sold for charity. Something to do with babies. Count me right out.
The trouble is with these things, unless you wear them for posing on semi-cool days sipping coffee outside 'Bar Italia' or, preferably, at that great Vietnamese place opposite Gare Du Nord, when do you wear them? In England I mean. I sometimes carry one folded across my left arm but rarely put the bugger on.
A Grenfell golf jacket at a cool £799 on the Bay. Gosh. I think the one I had back in around 2008 was about twenty quid.
I’ve never noticed any shortage of wet days in the UK. I’m more likely to be wishing I had worn a raincoat than the other way round.
At the moment, up here, the kind of weather that doubtless worried Stagg, plotting for D-Day. Typical British summer in fact.
