So I recently got me a Grenfell Harrington - these are a real rarity in the States. After some research, I learnt that Grenfell claims to have made the original, first Harrington. The Wikipedia page for the Harrington Jacket states that both Grenfell and Baracuta came up with the jackets in the 1930's.
For you fellows in the UK, how are the Grenfells viewed ore there? Are they considered equal, inferior or better than the Baracutas?
For what it's worth, my Grenfell Harrington is full cut amd has a really nice cloth, feels a little more substantial than my Baracutas. Also the Grenfell collar is a little bit larger than the baracuta...

I found this helpful thread:

All I have to say is I'm very happy happy with the quality of the Grenfell Harrington - it's definitely a step up from the Baracutas I have. The cloth feels more substantial, and it's all made of cotton, even the lining, which Baracuta did in polyester fabric.
The real deal Grenfells carry a label for the original manufacturers Haythornthwaite and the royal warrant 'by appointment to'. The cloth in these is definitely superior to other harringtons. Were they the originators of the Harrington, who knows?
There are also 'Grenfell by Crossfell' garments and the provenance of these is not so certain, still okay though.
I'm very impressed with the quality - mine has the royal warrant 'by appointment'
I wasn't sure if I should had bought it because I already have a baracuta but now I'm very happy with the purchase and also like that the inner check is more subtle and elegant than my classic Baracutas (which I still love btw)
I'm so happy with quality, that I will look for Grenfell raincoats and trenchcoats, if found on sale, they are the best deal out there by far.

Big score, Grenfell cloth is really nice, had a great old Invertere flyfront raincoat from the Andover Shop circa 1982 of Grenfell cloth with dark green button-in wool lining ... great stuff. Nice job Senorservo2.0!
Invertere and Grenfell in one hit ....just too much!
^ Yes, indeed. But something in poly/cotton on at the moment that looks (at least at first glance) to be the standard Pensioners' Special cod and chips, bread and butter, pot of tea for two stone colour. Not much interest thus far (Ebay again, folks). Now something in navy or olive... But, having developed a more or less ingrained dislike of zip-up jackets years ago, I wouldn't be interested. Had two golf jackets recently: King Louie (all cotton, USA) and Swingster (blend, padded, Hong Kong, I think), both sent off to a charity shop.
Invertere, though, remains on my radar.
As a footnote, I acknowledge that, in the USA, such an item might be highly desirable/prized. Part of the Anglo cross-pollination business once highlighted and discussed most entertainingly by JFM, Horace et al.
^ Difficult to follow the logic of continually buying things you don’t appear to be really sold on, then taking them to charity shops. Forgive me for being so direct.
Well: one experiments. Then loses interest. Same with women. The only snag is, you can't give them to Oxfam.
But Yuca has made much the same point and I understand the bafflement.
On the other hand, I still own clothes and shoes I've had for many years, such as the old Alan Paine for export cashmere v-neck I'm wearing at this very moment. There are some things I won't part with: the McGeorge cashmere v-neck from farrago (ditto a Mercer shirt), a vintage Alan Paine scarf sent to me by Staceyboy years ago.
But I grow easily bored.
