The Fez

I note that Incroyable has posted on the Fez.  Truely, Hortensia Krishna wears whilst meditating.  I like to wear whilst smoking.  I find the one offered by Lock to be nice.  Made in Morocco.  What say ye on the fez?  Vaclava should add the fez to the Triple Tweed.

Where's Gladhatter, he can tell us about the Fez and its current state of manufacture, truely.

Re: The Fez

I have encountered some abuse when I posted my thoughts on a fez, but I'd like to think that people are more receptive here.

Indeed, some of the Levantines who wear the fez are quite proud and very well-done up. Sometimes you see them smoking hookahs as well.

Re: The Fez

Except in the increasingly unlikely event I ever became a Noble of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, I don't ever see myself wearing a fez.

The somewhat similar chechia, which is the basis of the classic smoking cap, would be another matter. The chechia is the also the classic headgear of the Zouave. Many people confuse the chechia and the fez, but are not the same. The Lock smoking cap looks very appealing, but I cant really rationalize spending $400 or so for one.

Many years ago, I playfully quipped to a young fellow who was a family friend, "John, why don't you and I join the Masonic lodge and become Shriners and wear our fezes." His mother, an erstwhile Powers model, interjected, "Even Robert Redford would look ridiculous wearing one of those!"

Re: The Fez

Ah, thanks, it wasn't there when I had looked last (which was a while ago).  They only had the smoking caps.  Previously, I recall the copy reading "Made in Maroc".

Re: The Fez

I'd also like a night cap, with tassel, for meditation.
