Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

^ I have a red knock off Harrington like Milky from 'This is England' now wears.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HARRINGTON-JACKET-SKIN-XS-S-M-L-XL-XXL-3XL-4XL-5XL-RED-/360185467227?pt=Men_s_Clothes&var=&hash=item92aef106c2

I will still wear it despite that. Golden Bear will be upmarket in comparison.

Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

I've a great vintage Olive 'Arrington from 'Authentic Wear' of Hong Kong.

After the Baracuta G9 and then the Baracuta G4, maybe the action now is back to the G9 - But from the most interesting source?

Which rules out the blah Baracuta.

Time for Obscure Ivy !

Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

I didn't go in for these for long.  One - the Catalina as I recall - had a very chunky, clunky zipper.
The other reason I turned against any type of zip-up jacket: they often play the giddy goat before giving up the ghost.  And a zip-up looks pretty awful when unzipped.
I do remember, however, turning up to a school staff meeting looking very lovely in one of those beige Van Heusen jobs with Levis and loafers.  Talking drivel whilst munching sandwiches, I kept myself tightly zipped.
After all, there were ladies present.

Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

There's something described as a Catalina Harrington on Ebay at the moment.  Make of it what you will.

Also a rather shitty La Paz.

Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

Ha ha, there are quite a few shitty La Paz jackets on there.
Incidentally my first ever Harrington style jacket was a Burgundy shitty La Paz bought more than 40 years ago. Think I paid £30 for it from Harrington in Guildford. Still in the wardrobe. Can't bear to chuck it.

Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

The one I'm thinking of is in pretty poor condition, R.
£30 would have been a fairly high price at the time, I should have thought.
I wish I could remember something - anything - about the off-white, zip-up American jacket I bought for £7 at the newly-opened 'Affleck's Palace' in Manchester in 1983.  A pigeon crapped on it in Victoria coach station and stained it.  Never felt quite the same about it after that.

They (Harrington) also sold the La Paz in sky blue, like the one worn by Tim "Otter" Matheson in National Lampoons Animal House. Wish I'd bought that colour now.

Re: Peters, Derby and Catalina jackets

My Catalina was sky blue, my Peters a kind of tobacco brown.  Both seemed better, more 'under the radar' options than the G9 at the time.  Baracuta were already the subject of criticism on this forum after beginning production in Rumania.  Their other jackets were already lacking in style.  I saw one last autumn that was very 'Man At C&A/Pensioners' Lunchtime Special': not unlike beige/stone Gant with that horrible little logo.
