Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

TRS(GG) seems to be putting the new Ivy Style bloke in his place. Frosty lives on.

Going to have to disagree. The denigrated sneakers are great when worn with a suit and a newsboy cap like John Simons and me and my pals Horace and A Fine Sad Man too.'

Sammy fails to communicate his precise meaning: to me, anyway.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

Someone on IS comments section is posting under the name Gibson Gardens. However I'm pretty sure it's someone taking the piss out of TRS, and he is also having a go at AFS and Woof. (None of whom will give a shit, I suspect.)

IS under the new guy is such a state that insulting anyone else is absurd. However the new IS guy deletes or edits anything that's remotely critical of him, so I suppose there are few options for the trolls out there.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

I'm indebted to Yuca for clarifying this.  I'm not certain that I've so much as glanced at IS so far this year.  I know I've looked at something to do with Invertere and something else to do with dating Florsheim.  Maybe a single glance at AAAC.  Certainly nothing more.
Oh, I peruse DW over coffee and sandwiches.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

I give IS a glance every now and then and it really goes from bad to worse. The new guy has acquired a very basic knowledge of ivy clothing, so obviously an improvement, however IS has 2 major drawbacks: most of the content is not related to ivy clothing, and his style of writing is torturous to read. He thinks ivy is a concept, and most of the content is incoherent, pompous, twee waffle about ivy as a concept and how it relates to his family, personal life etc.

Much as we used to diss Chens, in retrospect he did produce a site that was focused on ivy clothing, and readable. 2 basics that are sadly lacking now.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

I had to read CCs writing years ago in order to balance it against JFMs posturings.  I felt rather sorry for him.  It was, after all, only a point of view.

The fake postings of GG/TRS can only come from place, nuff said.

Perhaps a back-handed compliment.  Who knows?

The attempt at satire is so lame it has Sammy written all over it. Ivy Style's demise is such I can't even be bothered to look any more, and it has left me newly appreciate of the work of Chinny Chens.

Call me slow on the uptake if you will, but who do you suspect? Over the years there have been plenty of people who took offence at Brits having the audacity to become ivy fans.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

Some Americans, to be fair, had no axe to grind, were perhaps a little baffled by our interest, but, at least in a minority of cases, claimed to be learning something new about dressing.

That's true. Most were very sweet about these mad Brits in love with their legacy. We had loads of great reviews in the States.

Maybe some affinities with black music, whether ragtime, stride, blues, jazz, soul.  All widely appreciated in Europe.

Oh, so TRS isn't putting the new Ivy Style guy in his place then. So,  who is? Is it you,  Sadness?

Whoever it is, I don't think he's putting the new guy in his place. He's taking the piss out of TI posters.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

Does this/that prove we're making an impact of some kind?  All I'm doing at the moment is mentioning slightly obscure Shetland crew neck sweaters in case anyone wants to stock up for autumn and winter.  Hardly controversial.
And we are, for the most part, Talking Ivy.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

You must be making an impact; and as long as Talk Ivy continues to exist, you'll make one. But sooner or later the software will fail and that's why it wouldn't be a bad idea to sometimes also post on DW, which now has an Ivy Club section.

The potential software problem has been taken into consideration.

The software problem will never be solved because the operator has no interest in it. How many years can it take for everyone to understand this?

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

I suspect most posters on here check DW, it's just many of them don't feel inspired to post. If - or when - this site kicks the bucket then DW may get more TI posters involved. Until then - i doubt it.

Re: Ivy and Trad dedicated thread on Dressed Well

I'd have thought the triumph of snaring The Artist Formerly Known As Woofboxer and his celebrated Jubilee underpants collection would be enough to quench even Sammy's thirst for conquest.

I've never had the remotest interest in Jason Jules or his doings.

Graham Marsh as well, AFS. Isn't he a major Ivy voice?

And a mention on here might snare the fake Gibson Gardens; assuming of course it is a fake.
