Keeping On Talking Ivy...

As a former poster, quoting another former poster, once said: there's bugger all new under the sun when it comes to discussing soft collars, loafers and all the other gallimaufry.  I suspect the Ivy world, like the Church Of England and the Conservative Party, has something of an ageing population.  But, so long as FNB is content to run this site (even disallowing chaps to stand around in fairy circles photographing one anothers toecaps), some of us will keep on keeping on.  Which means no jumping ship to DW.  Right?

Right.

I glance at DW every now and and wonder why any of them bother. It has not one single redeeming feature, other than it is a useful magnet for the brain-dead, the tedious and the incurious, ensuring their polluting effects are not felt upon those of us who prefer to scribe over here.

I also glance at DW but not much seems to be written about that would interest me. I don't feel any need to jump ship. Talk Ivy is more my scene and there is an archive of information here worth looking at. I suspect that the site may disappear one day but even if it did I wouldn't feel the need to join DW.

It used to be about clothes and had several decent posters who had also posted on here. Shooey was still doing his thing, for example, so it was another clothes forum like Styleforum or AAAC.

Somewhere along the line it then became more of a current events, news forum. Maybe the moderator got tired of clothing like Mafoofan (or New York Ranger in ‘the end of the sartorial road’  thread on Styleforum)?

Re: Keeping On Talking Ivy...

According to a former poster, 'Talk Ivy' has lost its way.

Talk Ivy only works when we're respectful of different opinions.

When posts aren't read properly it often creates problems.

I thought the whole idea was we were a community of like minded souls who shared an interest.

Re: Keeping On Talking Ivy...

There was always a good deal of banter and general piss-taking in the old days.  Some couldn't stand the heat so flounced out of the Giant vibrator.  But there was very little actual malice or ill-feeling.  Of course one has to work harder nowadays to read posts accurately but it's sometimes worth it.  I bump old posts from time to time for a variety of reasons.
