Just checked the website and there are 4 new shirts available,( 2 popovers), none particularly appeal to me , so I'll wait for further releases,
I am done with popovers.
What works on a polo shirt fails on shirting with no give in the material unless you have a billowy fit.
I must say I agree with KingstonIan. Sizing can be an issue. I never did get on with my JS corduroy.
I've never been a fan of popovers. I think they look fine on others. On me they just feel wrong. Like Kingston1an says, crossing a shirt with a polo and getting the worst of both.
I tried on an RL madras a few years ago and couldn't get it off quick enough. Recently had the same experience with an RL corduroy popover. So not for me.
+3 For the anti-popover crowd, like a great many things I like them in principle but in reality they do nothing for me. Can't say I'm over enthused about the latest Kamakura offering either, although I have every intention of pulling my finger out soonish and ordering one of the previous seasons shirts I've taken a shine to.
I've never owned a popover, TBH I can't see the point of them for all the reasons mentioned, Tim, limited choice of sizes in the previous season shirts,
@Stax they do allegedly have a couple left in my size. I'm not so enthused by it that I'll regret not buying it - if it's there in the couple of weeks time where I've potentially got some money again, so be it!
I have a few bleeding Madras popovers and when I was in shape they looked ok but now I have a paunch they don't look so good. I now find them difficult to take off as well so I'm not a fan anymore. I am reminded now of overweight Asian geezers wearing popovers of Madras or cheesecloth in the 1970s down around Brick Lane, East London. Not cool.
Most of my life I have tucked my shirts in but recently because of weight gain I've started to go untucked. I really must get in shape.
Tim - sounds like you had a bit of a spend up when you were recently in London so maybe hold back a little!
Robbie - get a grip son !
I have this image of trying to get off a popover off after , let’s say, a good day or night out, I’m sure it’d be difficult!
I was looking forward to the Madras offering from Kamakura's Vintage Ivy range, but it's a bit of a disappointment IMO.
New Vintage Ivy shirts for 2022 went live on Friday night. Four new models.
I love pop-overs with a passion.
In my Chablis-drenched mind they're more American than standard British shirts. Also you used to only find American brands producing them.
I always wear them tucked in. (In fact I always tuck shirts and polo shirts) so will size up.
My John Simons madras pop overs that were true to size have sadly shrunk. My favourite has now been turned into pocket squares.
Upon continuing to shrink (but still with some way to go) I'm finding this JS popover to be a more attractive option. It's hot outside now, therefore...
But I may give my new Brooks 'Special Order' a trial run over the weekend.
