What Have You Gone Off?

Brogues...  wingtips...  longwings...  call them what you will...  Not a sudden thing - not even a dislike - but I never really took to the Florsheim Imperials I imported at great cost around ten years ago (took a bit of searching for), much preferring the Florsheim PTBs - the smooths - bought around the same time and still going very, very strong...  (I retain the cordo Jarman, however, for nostalgic reasons if nothing else)...
I'm also off short-sleeved shirts in general, including polo shirts, TRS having convinced me they do not look good on a man of my age.  They've also become very 'overground', have they not?  I'm still wearing long-sleeve polo shirts, though, including a Smedley in sea island cotton (though I cannot nowadays get excited about Smedley in general).
I'm also growing bored with two-button jackets, having spoiled myself years ago with 3/2.  They simply look dull.
Sportswear - Russell Athletic - is also out.
Levis into the bargain.
Quite a list, eh?

Re: What Have You Gone Off?

The odd thing is that, after goodness knows how many years, I'm beginning to lose interest in clothes.  Regular trips to Chiltern Street might prove a corrective to this but I'm not about to undertake them, for various reasons.
Many of us remain averse to online buying; Ebay, even in the UK, is beginning to lose its dubious fascination.  Most other aspects of clothes buying online have never really appealed to me.
I tried taking a vague interest in 'outlets', 'retail parks'.  No go.
That leaves, really, just the scattering of 'vintage' shops, most of which seem to offer the same mix of RL, Hilfiger, Barbour, Burberry etc.
Forget the High Street.  There's nothing going on there and, in Ivy League terms, there probably never was.  Was there?

Boots...
I own several pairs. Chelsea, chucka, brougue boots, desert boots.
At a push I will wear the suede chuckas but as for the Chelsea boots thy see little action.
In the Autumn and Winter months I loved the combination of  the Chelsea being chunky with a double sole and bit different. They were pretty versatile too and could be worn with all manner of materials - flannel, moleskin and cords

Re: What Have You Gone Off?

I used to enjoy wearing chukka boots and wish I'd hung onto the English made Clarks' pair I once had.
Brogue boots I've never even considering wearing, just like anything with a strap, fringe or buckle.
A good deal less is a whole lot more.
Chelsea boots I last wore around the time I passed my Eleven Plus exam and buggered off to grammar school.

Re: What Have You Gone Off?

I guess this shadows that new thread to some degree.

Re: What Have You Gone Off?

Oh, what I have gone a little overboard about, following a decent amount of weight loss, is anything with a crew neck.  Making up for lost time, I guess.  I do not intend, however, to move into Frosty territory so at least one Shetland is earmarked for my younger daughter, now living in penury in Liverpool.
I snagged her a very acceptable McGeorge for a fiver just a couple of months ago.
