I wound up giving it a go - it came from JS - but it shrank when I tried washing it in cold water to shape it.
I was reminded of this thread by a. reading that Sir John Lally had once been spotted wearing one and b. listening to Dizzy Gillespie.
But I'm ruling it out for now.

Many on here would still deplore them. But, for that continental 'cross-pollination' look, they're probably unbeatable.
