JS has put 3 of the Made in London Ivy Jackets on the JS fb page (2 hours ago), 2 x linen and the Navy seersucker. But when you click on the products on the Fb page it says they're all sold out. I don't really see the point in that.

Or not updating your website.

Lots of businesses fail to update or adjust.  The Internet is often a very poor source of information.  And the Chiltern Street website is often clunky, inaccurate and utterly lacking in charm: verging on 'bells and whistles'.

And just to think what John Simons, Ian Strachan and others achieved during all those years doing it all the hard, old-fashioned way. 
The original website, promoting Russell Street, was a very different creature, full of vibrancy, charm and allure.  I used to get back from work, sit down in front of an old-style computer in what was then my 'study' (usually of plump nudes) and simply drink it all in: 'Soho Pasta Fill', Coltrane in Madras, Plymouth coats.  It should have been preserved, like an old field Blues holler.

I think most of it could be retrieved via waybackmachine.

Mark Isaacs even had that image of Bryan Forbes in a corduroy suit by Doug Hayward that was posted on the old website.

What I should like to see, ideally, is a kind of scrapbook containing Mr.Gaul's solo work (i.e.no connection with Graham Marsh) presented online from around - when? - 2010 onwards?  Perhaps earlier?  I'm talking about 'The Syllabus' here, which I was exploring the other day for information on Sergio Mendes.  The website could be included - double-page spread or something of that nature. 
Books can be produced via subscription. 
No-one else I can think of has produced so much of value in recent years.
Probably a pipe dream.

The navy linen trousers look pretty good.  Right time of year of course: hot up here.
But I cannot bring myself nowadays to visit London.  I don't mind arriving but departing is a pain in the arse.  All in the same day.  My experience of London hotels has not been very satisfactory. 
For some strange reason I've just watched the trailer from the movie - just to see and hear JS himself.

Ten years ago, Chiltern Street still had a low-key, 'un-Mod' feel to it.  A Duke Ellington tune was playing softly in a back room (my father would have enjoyed that) and the few customers I saw were, well, gentlemen: all hush and no hurry.  John asked me to mind the shop for a few minutes; can't remember why.  TRS turned up and we ate a delicious Italian lunch together, then walked a bit, chewing the Ivy/art/design/architecture/music/movie fat as we went. 

Happier times.

I visited Chiltern Street this morning with a view to buying a linen suit. They didn't have my size jacket (40) and I tried on a 42 and a 38. Unfortunately they didn't fit. J Simons always seem to sell out of popular sizes very quickly. I was told they aren't getting any more made up this summer. They didn't seem to have any size 40 jackets! I ended up buying a blue Oxford Ivy shirt to fill a gap in the wardrobe.

Robbie - Glad it wasn't a totally wasted journey to Chiltern St for you, just wondered if you noticed whilst you were there the j.press & Gitman shirts they had on their facebook page earlier this week , interested in  what the sizes were and if they were NOS or pre-owned, thanks,

Thanks anyway Robbie, I don't think the RS shirts @ Uniqlo have been on the website very long and are going quickly, not sure if they would stock in-store, at the weekend I was considering the red & the blue, ( size M), by the time I decided to go ahead there were no red's left in M, if you are considering one ( and why not at £24.90), the sizing on their size guide is accurate, I usually take a 'L' in (say) Gant or Gitman but the M was plenty roomy enough, quick out of the blocks us West London lads , haha

That is not what I meant, Andy, Waybackmachine is a page that finds stuff on the internet that is gone.

The last time I checked it had 10000s or at least a hundred of captures of the old website.

All that you need is the old orange address and if you type it in there it finds this stuffs.

This means you can find more content from the old JS homepage than when it was actually online, you can find most of the changes that were made throughout the years.
