Does this mean there are no more trad questions to be asked?
I miss some of the old people too. Have Harris and Squire really left for good?

I still read BBR from time to time. If I had to guess, I'd say there was one guy who's a contender for Harris's identity.
It is unfortunate that to become truly trad, one must begin to take the clothes for granted. The trad forum is somewhat self defeating in this way. It is a great resource though.
DavidRussellTerriJack,
Uptown is a very New Orleans specific usage. It simply means that that's how people in uptown New Orleans dressed at the time. I'm thinking of the late '70s, and it was very Tradlike. Certainly strong in the area of seersucker, poplin, bucks, weejuns, saddle shoes, khakis, alligator shirts and button downs. Hell, I was in college. I did buy an ancient olive poplin sack suit from Perlis at one point. They practialcally gave it away. I remember being a bit perplexed by the 3rd button that shouldn't have been. Quite unexpectedly I received many compliments from people more in the know than me, and it quickly became my favorite suit. It was an unusually dark olive, so I'm sure I stretched the season quite a bit. I really wasn't that interested in clothes back then. I had to gain some weight and loose some hair before I could see the value of being well dressed.
Anyway, I think that I have learned quite a bit about classic American style from AAAT. It's been fun. My lifestyle is not one where stylishness is particularly helpful, so I'm happy to wear sack jackets, plain front trousers and cordovan shoes. For me it's very simple.
Nice to chat, Longwing -
In retrospect my question looks more loaded than I intended this morning. The clothes remain the clothes no matter what descriptive is applied to them: Trad, Uptown, whatever. All the various descriptives do is just to give the clothes slightly different meanings by bringing different aspects of their history to the fore.
Trad has indeed been fun and I hope it will carry on attracting people to the clothes. It still remains by and large the best we have to represent classic American style on the foums although I like to think that we have our moments over here too. Nowhere else has the interest or the knowledge.
With AAAT we have what I used to call a 'deal with the devil' to put up with, but that's just part of the deal over there. To get all the good bits out of the forum we have to put up with the rest. 'Trad' has developed its own orthodoxy and rules which have gone into making up its character. It is what it is.
The world beyond the OPH continues to interest me more though, but that doesn't mean that the OPH isn't a great place to start.
As I say, nice to chat -
Best,
David
I am sure Squire is still around, he has his quiet spells from time to time.
I still wonder how many of the new posters are really just sock puppets.
No update on this story - Maybe they have decamped, maybe not...
Obsessives don't just stop obsessing overnight though. "Harris" will be keeping his bubble-world alive somewhere. He's not good with reality. Others will join in. Their choice...
Very telling that nobody cares enough about them to go look for them. Nobody at all.
A discredited forum.
A discredited "leader".
A discredited name for the style.
A discredited cannon and rules of the style.
Do they now meet in secret to rally around their discredited name & "leader"?
Who cares?
Let them keep their misinformation to themselves.
They made nothing but fools out of themselves on the Net., each and every one of them. "Harris" was the biggest idiot - His posts were riddled with mistakes. "The Squire" was the next biggest fool for swallowing it all and pissing away so much money on making himself look ridiculous.
Other know-nothings made up the rest of the troops.
The test was always if you had read the OPH before finding internet "Trad". If you had you pissed yourself reading the forum. If you hadn't you earnestly tried to join the "Trad" club.
"Trad" did some good & it did some harm. It made a lot of people laugh too...
So that's not all bad, eh?
I wish them well. A funny little Internet PS in the history of Classic American style.
You have to laugh, don't you?

Some of them now call each other by first names, despite their login names.
Perhaps they are now running a secret trad cabal behind the scenes.
Do I have to bugger a goat to get in?
