Not quite as exciting but still pretty good is the chino shorts they got on at 20 quid hopefully they'll drop down a bit in the mid season sale

I did see him once get physically removed from the high street ken branch. To be fair it is hard to find the changing rooms there

I dobbed into the local UNIQLO after work having spotted the zipper/Madra/Seersucker jacket too. Tried it on and just felt it a little too much for me. The yellow is almost a shiny Gold colour and those particular bands in the pattern are more than the wrinkled pucker you expect and actually feel like there is an elastic thread in there. Those MUJI linen ones look nice though. May take a look in there tomorrow in town.

Re: What's good in Uniqlo at the mo?

Anyone bought anything in Uniqlo recently? I bought their  EXTRA FINE MERINO KNIT LONG SLEEVE POLO SHIRT & was really pleased.
But I wondered if anyone had seen the TOMAS MAIER 100% SUPIMA COTTON SHORT SLEEVE T-SHIRT ?
Sorry I don't know how to post a picture.

How did you find the fit on the TOMAS MAIER 100% SUPIMA COTTON SHORT SLEEVE T-SHIRT?
They describe it as slim fit.

Good spot, Woof. Picked up one of these last week. Nice full cut too, which isn't always the case with Uniqlo.

Re: What's good in Uniqlo at the mo?

I was in the Kingston branch at the weekend and in answer to the OP:

Chinos. - a couple of members on here have mentioned them. Quite a relaxed and fulsome cut in the ‘classic’ fit with what appears to be a reasonable rise. Quality is acceptable for a very reasonable thirty five quid. On offer in a couple of shades of khaki, navy, olive and taupe.

5 pocket twill jeans, again with what looked like a sensible waist height, various colours but the one that caught my eye was a stone/cream colour.

Cord trousers - similar cut to the chinos and in some classic colours, stone, burgundy, navy, chocolate brown.

Overcoats - raglan sleeves Balmacaan style, slash pockets and in an almost suspiciously similar cut to the current JS offering. About 4 colours on display which were in a pretty grim velour type cloth, except a dark navy Melton type cloth in which the coat actually looked pretty good, especially for £99.

Raincoats - again Balmacaan style, looked good and well priced.

That’s all I had time for really as Mrs Flat was wanting to move on. Nothing there I needed, but quite heartening that Uniqlo are again doing ‘Ivy on a budget’, it would certainly be a place to look at if you are starting out and wanting to build up a basic wardrobe with limited funds and aren’t too pedantic about where stuff is made.

FlatSixC-That's a great summary of Uniqlo and Ivy on a budget at the present time. I would also add that the off white T shirts are pretty good. As you say you can't be too pedantic as to where the stuff is made.

Re: What's good in Uniqlo at the mo?

I took a look at the overcoats online, they look good, could have saved myself £500 if I'd bought one of these rather than a JS ! But I'm sure there's a gulf in the quality.. well I hope so.... !

Re: What's good in Uniqlo at the mo?

Stax - definitely, the ones I was looking at in Uniqlo are very basic. Unlined and made from a polyester/acrylic mix so a different animal altogether. But a good effort for the price.

Interesting, never looked at the Uniqlo chinos in earnest, just thought they would be crotch and ball breaking too tight and high mast for me. As JFM use to say, he would never spend good money on chinos as they were only ever one red wine spill away from ruination.

Bought an Aran jumper from Uniqlo last month with just the right blend of acrylic/polyester/real wool mix to be hopefully, moth attack proof. Noted the 100% wool equivalent elsewhere are in the €399+ zone. I paid €39.90.

Re: What's good in Uniqlo at the mo?

Last time I was in Uniqlo there were some chinos that looked great. Nice cut/rise/weight/colours and price.

All that put me off bulk buying was that they only seem to come in 34" length. I don't fancy taking a stack of brand new mid price chinos in for alterations

Re: What's good in Uniqlo at the mo?

I bought 2 pairs of the chinos at half price and paid £7 each to have them shortened.
Spendthrift-Uniqlo now offer a free alterations on trousers costing over £20. Not sure if all stores offer this service but it might explain why the trousers all come in a 34 inch length
