Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

The Hartford jacket I own is a grey corduroy number. It's a good jacket. Completely unlined. Sleeve length is perfect for me and great shoulders and pocket detail, but I can only confirm that it is rather short fitting. In my opinion definitely too short to fit in with a strictly ivy aesthetic. And I'm a pretty long way from a strict approach!

Looks good as a casual throw on with jeans, polo shirt or sweater but definitely gives off a more mid-century continental moddy vibe. I would say it's so casually cut that it doesn't even look quite right with a shirt and any shoe heavier than a loafer.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

I've bought another Folk basket weave cotton jumber from TKMaxx. The fit for me is so good and £25 is cheap. I've noticed TKMaxx has become flooded with Folkclothing products. They must be supplying TK with lesser quality gear. Lots of man made fibres and fictional RRP.

Also Pringle merino wool jumpers available. Again £350 RRP. Who pays that for a company exploiting it's heritage and not made in Scotland?

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

'If anyone is interested End Clothing have a mid-season sale , ( had an email notification this morning), some Gitman shirts & Jamieson knits in the sale, average 30% off, possibly some other stuff of interest, I didn't look too far,'

Good call staxfan. Jamieson knits are nearly half price in some cases. I have one of their fairisle knitted waistcoats which is very useful under a jacket. May have Monty Python gumby associations or James Herriot ones, but I like them and they are genuine, made in shetland garments too.

Its just a question of whether I really need more knitwear.

yeah its just right in the body for me because I'm on the short side, but has sleeves for a normal height person (on whom it would be too short).  Had a similar situation with alpha sized Beams jacket, worked out well once I got the sleeves taken up but would have looked silly on someone taller than me.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

I have just purchased some nicely faded OrSlow Ivy 107 jeans. I've never bothered with anything stone washed or faded since the 80's but I really like the patina on these.

I always find that any dark denim I purchase doesn't fade uniformly. I must have boney knees as I get a lot more fade there and often give up on getting the look I want.

I'm thinking more about Summer and deck shoes and drivers with them. Alvey on the Riveria.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

^ many thanks for highlighting the End sale.

Last year I was tempted by a camel shetland but it was never reduced in the January sale.

This time round it was 50% off so pulled the trigger straight away.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

End seem to usually hold back from massive reductions, I’ve considered a few items over the last few years when I’ve received their 20% pre sale offers, holding back for a bigger reduction that hasn’t come and often the items haven’t come up in the sale, so when I see 30% discount on some GV’s I jumped in, a week later they were offering an additional 20% discount and they still had the shirt I’d bought in my size, aah !  But 30% discount was still good,

Alvey if you set up an account with End you’ll get the pre sale offers, glad it worked out for you this time,
Cheers

A burnt orange RL oxford plaid shirt. When it comes to rare checks, there's nobody does it better than Ralphy boy.

Lean Garments ‘denim’ shirt, via Sid Ford and eBay. It’s a lovely soft cotton that makes we wish I had bought more LG at the time.

Also an unlined cotton jacket from Uskees. A bit stiff at the moment, I’m hoping it’ll soften to a slouchy casual jacket.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

I bought the End Jamieson Shetland after Black Friday reduced it to £68. Fit is rather tight. 44 or XXL. The Jamieson knitted waistcoat is a better fit and that is just XL.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Good to hear several posters have made use of the End sale for Jamiesons knits, I've 3 Jamieson shetlands, ( probably all from End), and like Kingy I've had to size up ,

Levis Vintage Clothing 1954 501 at half price online. Levis Red Tab promotion

I really like the cut of these jeans but wouldn't pay full price for them.

I'm stocking up as no doubt in the near future they'll mess around with the cut, availability, etc

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

^Got them too, the same time I bought the 1937's. Had the 1937 taken in to match the 1954 501's.

Did a cold wash in the bath not so long ago. Shrunk a bit. Not that much, but I sized up 2 sizes.

Amongst the inner-sanctum over at Dressedwell they have real disdain for Levi's Vintage 501 range. Not authentic for their tastes. They prefer more Japanese manufacturing content, although my 2 pairs are Japanese made.

A Pendleton blanket in order to combat the current cold weather and the high cost of heating bills, a definite old person type purchase. I bought it online from Stuarts in Shepherds Bush, at present you can get 20% off most things on their site.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

So my LVC's turned up.

A disaster. All the on products tags/branding said they were 1954 zip jeans but the product wasn't. Even the sizes different.

Spoken to LVC and waiting their response

I'm convalesing, after an operation, so I wanted some loungewear 'pants' for dosing around in. Missus went and bought me some Bjorn Borg Black watch tartan pants. Perfect. She can read me like a book.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Navy Jamieson's Shetland - technically arrived down the chimney rather than postbox, as it was a present....

Of all the still-surviving Shetland knitwear producers, Jamieson's produce the best, I think: saddle shoulder, good collar, brushed, no weird baggy arms, fit me well and consistent with sizing.

End clothing discount codes put them at a not outrageous price, too

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Not through my letterbox, as I went to try it on. Not Ivy either although there are apparently some Steve McQueen associations. I invested (heavily) in a Belstaff Trialmaster motorcycle jacket, in Mahogany Brown with thoughts of extending my motorcycle riding season. I had one for scootering when I was about 16 but there’s really no comparison with the modern iteration of this old man motorcyclist’s favourite. Wax cotton jackets have improved greatly in recent times and are no longer the mucky, smelly things they used to be. This one features a zip in liner and built in armour which is handy if you fall off. You could wear it down the pub really, but I won’t because I’ve got lots of better pub gear.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

I got a pair of sand Clarks rock boots delivered today from End clothing. Based on the desert boots but with a sole for winter conditions. I already have an oak colour version and they are just up my street. I got them for £60 so for me a steal. Obviously they have not proved popular as plenty available at half price.
Missus couldn't believe I'd bought yet another pair of shoes. HaHa it's a harmless obsession.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

I have always wanted a pair of Cole Hahn pinch loafers.

Amazon currently have them on offer in Uk fittings.

They arrived yesterday and went back today.

The leather was such high shine that the burgundy colour looked black.

Shame as the shape looked great

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Another Gitman Vintage shirt from End, 30% off in their sale, it’s called midnight blue, dark’ish but not navy, I’m getting twitchy as there’s  less and less UK retailers selling Gitmans, more of them showing up on Maarkt which makes me think they’re out of vogue with the young regular buyers and they may not be easy to come by in the UK in the near future, as mentioned a number of times they’re not everyone’s choice with the double stitching on the collar but for me the best available ivy shirts, light years ahead of the offerings at 46CS for a similar price sorry to say,
