^ I must get over there but it’s a bit of a hike from my side of town. I’m assuming he’s still at Silvertown, a move to Shoreditch was mooted I believe?
He is in the process of moving and he will be leaving West Silvertown by the end of the month. Everything is a bit up in the air for him at the moment. He is expecting to move Chiltern St way but nothing signed as I understand it.
A Jake's blue b/d popped up on Marrkt today, marked XL, Unworn - £ 75, it looks like it sold immediately, someone got a bargain !
£75 for a Jake's shirt is a bargain. It looks brand new as well. Surprised at the XL size and not neck size in inches and sleeve length. I wonder if it was a sample and Jake sold it himself? Last time I was at his workshop he was loading up a container and his studio was empty of clothes, as he was waiting to move.
Just got an email from Jake re ready to wear summer shirts now available. Not sure where he is making them now but good to know he is still in business producing quality shirts
He's based on Chiltern St now, but not in a shop - has a basement workshop.
Was my 50th last friday and a couple of pals bought me a Jakes Leisure shirt in a mini medallion print of which there's is no more left. Brown base with a rose and burgundy pattern.
He told me he was going to Chiltern Street last time I was in West Silvertown. I presume we can collect the shirts from Chiltern Street now?
I'm thinking of buying a couple more.
I think Jake may have long term plans for a shop which would be great
Looks like he's got former TI poster Uncle Ian modelling some of the shirts, ( I'm sure UI said a while back he was on the website and it looks like the same guy),
I clicked onto Maarkt a hour or so ago and there were 5 pre-owned Jakes shirts just come available size 16.5, all at £65, and hour later they'd all been sold.....
Someone got a few bargains with the Jake shirts on Marrkt. I placed an order with Jake on June 12 and he told me they were having a few production problems to do with power supply. I guess that's been solved because the order is on its way. Bit of a pain because I'm in Finland for a few weeks.I did wonder if Jake himself was selling off stock through Markkt. I hope his business is ok.
Another 4 Jake's turned up on Maarkt, size 'L', unworn... around £70, Robbie - hope your one ' in-the-pipeline' isn't among them... haha
I hope Jake's business is not going 'tits up'. His shirts are a great fit for me.
Agreed, I'm sure it's tough trying to run a business for what really is a small niche market,
I fear the niche market in Ivy clothes has now shrunk so much as to be almost dead. Jake was starting to branch out and experiment with other types of design for his shirts.
Small business doesn't seem to survive for very long.
Robbie - has the shirt you ordered from Jake's arrived yet ?
Royal Mail left a card at my flat. I wasn't there so it will go back to Jake. He knew I was in Finland and I had told him to hang on till I got back but he forgot. I'll probably collect it next week when I am back for a few days or he can send it to me in September. All a bit of a palaver.
"I fear the niche market in Ivy clothes has now shrunk so much as to be almost dead. Jake was starting to branch out and experiment with other types of design for his shirts."
Even throughout its glory days, Brooks used to sell all sorts of non-ivy crap. Presumably it helped them stay solvent. Diversification for Jake's also makes sense.
I was able to collect my Jakes shirt from the local sorting office . A blue cotton/linen BD beauty.
Yuca- I agree that Jake's needs to sell a variety of different style shirts
Had an email this morning for Jakes advising he has a pop up shop in Shoreditch for a few days next week, some new offerings on his website, So he's still up & running which of course is a good thing !
I had the same email. Unfortunately I'm not in UK next week so won't be able to go there. He seems to be operating out of a shop in chiltern street now. He is sold out of one or two shirts I'm interested in.
I’m interested in Jake’s work- I get a good sense from his website. Wonder if they have a pinpoint??
Jdemy- You can email Jake and ask him. He is very approachable and open to discussing all things Ivy and more.
The Maarkt site still has two brand new Jake shirts for sale at better than half price. Unfortunately for me they are both L. I've checked the dimensions and they are too big for me. Jake shirts are usually a generous cut so although I can sometimes take an L in this case not.
A real bargain for someone that carries a bit of timber.
They look great. Something’s up with the sizes listed. The blue shirt is listed as XL, but has a smaller chest size than the red chambray- which is a Large.
