Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

Stax you make a good point about inside pockets. It's something that bugs me. With today's mobile phones and other paraphernalia that people have to carry around a decent deep inside pocket with a zip is a good idea. I started to wear a Harrington again and found the inside pocket with button useful. (I then stopped wearing the Harrington when the missus accused me of looking like an old man).
Was your Mingus a one off or did  JS think they might make more?

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

They haven’t said they were going to make any others I said if they did I’d collect my commission ata later date !
TBH.  I thought it was a fairly obvious material to produce the Mingus in , more in line with the golfing inspiration for the jacket than cord or tweed, be interesting to see if they do produce some more, in olive would look good I think, BTW looks better without the rear pocket,

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

There are 2 JS jackets on Maarkt, size 42 ( 52 euro), both at £150, one of them looks like the early, ( 2010-11) navy wool , made in Italy jackets, patch pockets, hook vent, I actually have one of these jackets, excellent quality, I reckon if they were making them now they'd retail at £500 - 600, highly recommended,

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

The JS jackets look to be in good condition and hardly worn. Someone will get a bargain buying these. The quality of some Maarkt offerings seem suspect to me especially footwear (not that I would buy second hand shoes unless unworn).

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

'JS 1955' sub brand now launched to cover workwear clothes. Not sure why the need for a separate 'sub brand' and a lot of the stuff appears to be a bit pricey for my tastes but then I can be a bit of a cheapskate.

Did anyone see the Batik shirts on the FB page... soon to be on the website, can't say they grabbed me.....

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I didn't pay much attention to the Batik shirts but I noticed today they were selling jewellery. When I was a young teenager I had a metal name bracelet and from time to time I've fancied getting a silver one. I usually get over that urge.

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I suppose a sub brand is an alternative to a separate shop for workwear. Maybe he hopes to keep the older customers and persuade them them to consider the stuff, while also attracting a newer market.

Either way, I have no interest in workwear.

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I visited JS with the idea of buying a linen suit. Needless to say they didn't have my size. I nearly walked out without buying anything (that would have been a first) but as I was leaving I was offered a pair of Astroflex  Driftflex for the knockdown price of £79. They fitted perfectly so I bought them. Bit of an iffy colour of grey/blue which I wouldn't have bought unseen but they looked good on. A summer shoe for a Mediterranean holiday.

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

Robbie - I've come to the conclusion that if I see something new on the JS website that I like/want I just have to bite the bullet and pay full price and get it fairly quickly, ( overcoat last year), as it seems all the mid-range sizes sell out quickly even before the sales start, particularly their own brand items, TBH I only get tempted when I see their Ivy jackets, I then tell myself I have enough jackets and think I've done well if I manage to wear them all through the winter ! TBH I can't think when I'd personally wear a linen suit, and I'm not sure if I could pull it off ! I have 4 pairs of Astorflex boots, excellent quality,

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I was prepared to pay full price for the suit but my timing was all wrong. I tried on a 42 navy jacket but it was just too big. I didn't intend to buy a navy linen suit but it looked good. I wasn't thinking about the ecru version, which I couldn't pull off, but the other colours were relatively conservative.
I got married in a linen suit and so have 'happy' memories wearing them.

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I turned my nose up at the Vetra jackets (I don't need any more jackets) last time I was in the shop but with matching trousers the cord suit is something I suddenly need. Any idea on the details for the trousers Stax? I can't find them on the JS site

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I struggle with the prominant vertical lines either side of the buttons on the jacket fronts. I know it's a style, but if anyone had put those up here ten years ago, there's no way it would of been accepted. But times and people change.

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

I agree AUS. The vertical lines on the jacket are a bit off-putting. I've decided the Vetra suit is a bit too 'rustic' for me. The trousers have one or two dodgy details as well.

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

The vertical lines on the jacket and (IMO) unnecessary detail on the trousers would be deal breakers for me, and I agree AUS not so long ago we'd never even considered them on this ageing site, just a thought... it'd be nice if Vetra produced more Keydge type jackets... and trousers... I'd be in for them.... aaah

Re: New In At Chiltern Street...

JS still promoting Alan Paine knitwear as made in England today.  The products may have england on the label but last time I checked they were being manufactured abroad. Disingenuous to trade on a British heritage. They are all doing it though.
I first bought an AP jumper from the Squire shop in 1969. That was definitely made in England
