Yes correct, that is what you said January 2022.

Well the word filters are still working. Anyone remember what the other filtered words are?

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

Its a pity that now basics like quoting and images are gone but c'est la vie.  I still check in every 4-6 months or so, one day though I expect that this place will be no longer and gone.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

Which will go first.... Twitter/X or the forum?

Abandoned sites and old fora are a growing thing, there are old client businesses of mine whose websites are still up though they went bust years ago. The administrator doesn't take it down and the ISP doesn't catch up for a while.

I'm progressively deengaging online anyway as I age so the slow fading of the site kind of works for me.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

Woof is correct, I am working on upgrading the forum. I have said that multiple times over several years but hopefully we can get this resolved soon. I've finally decided to stick with this software which had aged out a few years ago but seems to be having something of a renaissance. That will help preserve messages etc. We do need to have the ability to quote and post pictures; hopefully larger resolution pictures. Really, it would seem that the forum doesn't have as decidedly old a look as I thought it might have after all these years. Perhaps sometimes dragging ones feet can have a positive effect.

If there is anything that needs to be addressed or added to the forum functionality, please leave your comments.

Thanks for your continuing patience.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

The forum seems to have a life of its own. It keeps ticking over with a few well informed posters and lots of others that just read the comments. It would be useful to have the ability to quote and to post pictures. I'd like to see the return of 'the narcissists' and their well turned out 'rigs'.
I don't care about the 'look' of the forum. May be it has become 'classic'. It's the content that is all important to me.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

That's great news, FNB. All it needs is photos and quote text, nothing more. That's part of its charm!

Great to hear from the founder FNB himself!

The wardrobe side is not what it was though. I quite enjoyed that too

Photos and text quoting will be addressed. Are there issues with private messages?

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

Ah yes, forgot about those. Yes, for some members their inboxs are full and can't be cleared. Would be nice to see this place up and running again, far preferable to Instagram which can feel very temporary and superficial.

There are decades of archival photos posted on here which would be great if they could be viewed again (old adverts, vintage finds, scans etc).

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

FNB, I tried to get in touch with you some time ago via the email on the front page. I felt pretty confident that the software could be either updated or migrated. Punbb as I'm sure you are aware is basically dead at this pont but there are options.
I have a modicum of experience (not huge I grant you but some..) with back-end PHP and forum implementation so if there is anything I can do to assist let me know.

@Tim

I couldnt find a message with your registered email. If you still would like, please send to filmnoirbuff@gmail.com.

I understand that Punbb is enjoying something of a renaissance but the problem isnt whether we could easily use a different software, the problem is that there were so many software shortcuts and modifications taken for the initial forum that to transfer without losing large amounts of both private and public data will prove difficult.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

Hi Film - it’s good to hear from you.
It would be a shame to lose the archive material on this forum, there is some great knowledge there. But the enjoyment of reading it is tempered by the missing photos and posts.
If the Forum was restored to its former functionality, we might be able to put the message out on various sites and tempt back a few former members and recruit some new ones who are tired of the banality of Facebook and Instagram.  On balance I think that is the way to go.
Kind regards
Andy

Nice one old chum.  It’s really the one forum I visit, albeit sporadically.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

At the moment I have no updates. Still working on it but no updates. We could start a new forum but that'd nuke everything we have here and that's why this is seemingly taking forever.

Re: Forum Relaunch - Update

Incidentally, would members prefer a fix for this forum or an entirely new forum?

FNB asked:
"Incidentally, would members prefer a fix for this forum or an entirely new forum?"

A fix. It was once the star of the menswear forums and it can be again.
