I find the general issue I have with Blake stitched/USA brand loafers is the quality of the overall construction is a lot more variable.

I guess it's all down to what you are willing/able to pay.

I understand from various Ivy sages  that originally loafers were supposed to almost disposable. You'd wear them for the Spring/Summer and by the end they'd be worn out.

Obviously due to duties and availability in the UK they took on greater importance. Sadly now there is very little difference price wise between some UK Goodyear welted shoes and higher end, made in the USA, Blake stitched loafers

I've stated previously on more than 1 occasion that I'm a massive Rancourt fan. I only have 1 pair of their pennies and 1 pair of their boat shoes but both are light years ahead of cheaper alternatives. To look at and to wear. For me it's well worth the extra cost. I dream of getting another pair of their loafers although importing to the UK would be pricey.

I wore my JS Rancourt pennies from new without any problem. I think they have stretched slightly over the years though. The leather is soft as butter and when polished has an outstanding shine. I would never go back to disposable type loafers now, although I understand why an impoverished student would love them.

I got my JS Rancourt pennies in the sale. Many years ago. The boat shoes I got used on Ebay. Condition and price were both very decent. Whilst they are worth the new prices, you're not the only one who can't afford them. Particularly considering shipping and customs duties.

Rancourt has another loafer (I forget the name) that I've wanted for a long time, and they even did them on a special offer in the pandemic, but I've still not invested. I recently got some trainers from Muji for nearly 30 quid that are working for me, at least for the summer.
